ABS Nightmare

Just thought id see if anyone had any ideas on the subject.

About three months ago the ABS & TC light flashed up on the dash, the next day it went and I didn't see it again for about 4 weeks.
Then it was off and on from day to day until it constantly stayed on.

I plugged in VAG COM and got the following:

Control Module Part Number: 1J0 907 379 AF
Component and/or Version: ASR 20 IE CAN 0001
Software Coding: 13404
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000
1 Fault Found:
01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64)
16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent

I checked the connections to the ABS unit, but the light still stayed on.

Managed to get a new ABS unit (pump and electronic section) which I fitted today.

But the ABS & TC lights still remain on, iv checked all the ABS & TC fuses and they all seem to be ok.

Just wondering if the ABS unit I fitted today needs any further setting up - I.E - coding to the ECU?
I haven't cleared the codes on VAG COM.

Also, although I pressure bled the brakes, is it necesary for the ABS system to be purged through VAG COM - as after I had finished fitting the new ABS unit and bled the brakes, the brake pedal is really spongy.

I know Danny_Lad had the same problem a few months ago, but not sure if he managed to sort it?

Any help appreciated,
Many Thanks.

you still got spongey brakes though?

Yeah still very spongy, think they may need bleeding again though - which im going to do tomorrow.

Were fine before I fitted the new ABS unit but there is obviously some air left in the system somwhere.

If I cant sort it out with a pressure bleeder, ill just get the full version of VAG COM and purge the ABS.

I know youve been having a lot of problems with your brakes.
Have you changed the servo?
On my old fiesta, I flipped the seals pushing the pistons back in, the brakes just progressivey got worse, so I changed the servo and it sorted the problem.

mate just let us know how you get on with the abs bleed as my brakes have not been the same since the system went dry! had them pressure bleed lots of times did a abs bleed proceedure but only produced 1 litres of waste brake fluid and your meant to get 2 litres though each side followed the proceedure to a tee. Servo you mean the pipe?

Hi mate,
When I first drove off after fitting the unit, the pedal almost hit the floor, was like this pretty much all the way home (10 miles).. even after repeated pressing of the pedal.
The day after, I noticed the brake bite point slowly make its way back to where it used to be, and its back to normal now.

Iv just left it, but may bleed it over the weekend just to make sure.

The servo is the big black round thing that the brake fluid reservoir is connected to, you say you have bled it properly on a number of occasions, my bet is the brake servo or master cylinder.

flipped the seals over when bleeding the system up is usually the culprit or maybe a dodgy hose in the line ?

Did you wind the piston back in without opening the bleed nipple?
Usually the brake fluid being pushed back the other way round the system flips the seals in the servo.

dot 4 mintex i use .. seatcoober mate its a really stupid question but take the rear caliper off and slider pins and where the slider pins go into the carrier fill the hole up to the max with copper grease then put pin back in and try that mate .. cause on mine my brakes are spongey cause i have a worn carrier on the driver side front so i packed it full of grease and put all back together again and now its solid cause i taken the play out of the carrier..
