Is this clutch any good?

My clutch seems to be on its way out :(, its slipping more and more on boost..

Just looking round for alternatives, quite a few people have mentioned getting rid of the dual mass system, what are the benefits of this?

Iv seen this kit on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPORTS-CLUTCH...CarParts_SM?hash=item4ceaaa8c27#ht_5733wt_996

Which is a single mass kit from high torque performance clutches, has anyone used these before?

Im running 220Bhp so looking for something a little better than standard.

Many thanks,
Alex.

Just go with the LUK G60/VR6 clutch and flywheel setup, available from Euro Car Parts for less money than that and more than adequate for the power you're running.

Part numbers can be found with a quick search, loads of threads on this

Cheers Robbie,

Dug up one of your old posts:

G60 flywheel part #: 028 105 269 BX
Bolts: N10 101 001 & N90 206 103 x6 EACH

Part # from Euro Car Parts for clutch kit is 641440660
(Look under the VW Golf 1997 VR6)

Straight swap, can handle more torque than the standard clutch and the single mass flywheel is much lighter so the revs pick up quicker.

Flywheels:

OEM G60:
• Steel construction
• 21.6 pounds

Eurospec:
• Billet steel construction
• 14 pounds
• Most inexpensive

Autotech:
• Billet steel construction
• 11.8 pounds

Autotech:
• Aluminum construction
• 8.3 pounds

Fidanza:
• Aluminum construction
• 6.5 pounds

If found the clutch kit on EuroCar parts, taking It I order the G60 flywheel and bolts from VW?

Do you know if you get a replacment release baring with the clutch kit? If not do I get a standard ibiza cupra one or a VR6 one?

Im abit of a noob to this!

As Robbie says, stay away from ebay clutches! Ive had my VR6/G60 setup on for 2.5 months now and love it. Gets abused and loves it. I'll be running it on my ko3 hybrid soon and dont see why it wont be able to cope. They are rated to 300lb/ft anyway so will be more than enough for your setup;)

Well done mate, you'll like thye feel of it and it can handle the power no problem. Only thing is it will feel slightly different to the stick clutch(dual mass) and the G60(single mass), its feels like the car judders more on pull away unless you put more revs down.

Good upgrade though, im putting 290 lb/ft through it at the mo and its holding up perfectly, im sure it will be fine on a ko3hybrid aswell if thats a route your going down.

Looks like I could be doing the same as you guys sooner than originally planned, i already have the flywheel just the other bits to get. My car broke down on my journey home tonight from work just heard a big bang and my clutch pedal was sat on the floor, oh dear no driving home from work for me. Luckily the garage i use for doing bits and bobs came and recovered me thankfully, had to laugh as my car was too low to go on the back of the recovery truck so had to have a tow home.

Hopefully its just the cable or the poor birdshit welds on the clutch pedal have gave way for now, I dont fancy my pushiron bright and early at half five in the morning:lol:

Still cant complain I have owned my car for nearly four years and this is probaly the largest problem I have had aside to small things like coil packs, MAFS, ABS sensors, lambda probes the usual stuff really, right winge over lol.

Dam thats a *****er. Its probably like you said, the clutch pedal snapping, common fault, not bad going though in 4 years of wonership. Ive had mine 2years now and two weeks ago i had my first coilpack go, soon followed by the other 3, so 4 brand new ones in now!

Spanish donkey power, gotta love it!

Hi Alex, How much did the flywheel, clutch and bolts cost you? Just wondering as above is posted a link to euro parts that do it as a kit for £213!

Also why did u get a new slave cylinder? do i need to get one if im changing to this set up or was your old one buggered?

Hi Mike,

The clutch was £88, Flywheel and bolts were £166.

The slave cylinder isn't necessary, but I think mine is abit faulty so having it replaced.

I saw the single mass conversion kits on Euro car parts aswell, I dont think its meant to be as good / handle the power as much as the VR6 G60 combo.
