Seat Media Pack

Evening guys n gals.

Quick one for you.

The Leon i have on order has the media pack ticked as an option. This is essentially the touch screen head unit with sat nav etc built in.

On the Leon i demo'd the navigation software wasnt left in the car so when trying to launch the navigation function on the unit it just asked for the media to be inserted.

What format does the media come in and should i be expecting it with the car from the factory or will i have to purchase it from the dealer ?

Main reason for asking is that i am looking at USB / SD card memory options for storing MP3's on for play back on in the car and wanted to make sure i wasnt going for an option on the music side that was going to conflict with the navigation software.

Thanks, Nige

The demo I test drove had the media system with sat nav and it was on an SD card.

Hi, I got this on my FR, the maps come on CD which you can run them from, but your CD player is then tied up with the disk, or you can buy an SD card and use the media system to transfer the maps to the card. This means that the CD can be kept safe at home as they cost £100 + for a new one, also you can use the SD card to keep music on as well if you buy a large one. I went for a 32GB card and so have a lot of music on and the nav map for UK and it all works fine.
The CD is provided with the car, although it does get delivered separately to the dealer who order it from SEAT once the car arrives at dealers.
Hope this helps

Does the map data use up a lot of space?
I was just looking at buying this sd card as its a good price, the 32gb ones are quite expensive from the looks of it.

PNY 16GB Optima High Speed SD HC Card class 4 £16.99

16GB would be more than enough for the map data, the only reason I got a larger one was so I could fit more music on. The maps are held on CD so unless they are compressed on the disk they would only be 700MB.
It states in the manual that the map data will not be able to be read by anything other than the media system so I can't tell you exact size on the card but a google search for the RNS310 gave me some good references for info on the media system.

Seems to have a bit of information on the 310, can't confirm the accuracy of it though.

Just checked on mine and the data takes about half a gigg for UK maps.
Ive got an 8 gig SD in which has got over 3 gig left and has about 70 albums on.

its not too badly priced if you get it in the technology pack.
I've currently got a tomtom, which works quite well, but its the small things i hate about them, i dont use it on every journey, sometimes ill have to get it out mid journey if i need to find an alternate route for instance which can be a task sometimes, also for some reason mine doesnt let you keep the map facing north which is annoying if you simply want a map on screen to see back routes through london ( i hate rotating maps, im guessing newer models have this now though? )

It's about £750 for the Seat version which is quite good if you add in the fact it also comes with bluetooth which is a £210 option on it's own. Serioulsy thought about it but don't use sat nav that often and when we do the iPhone has done the job.

VW charge 2K and BMW start at 1.5K and that is without bluetooth, usual Seat bargin option :D

still surprised people go for factory sat navs ? they are well over priced and there are also cheaper better alternatives out there.

Really? It's obvious if you actually want it to look nice and work out of the box. Even retrofitting an OEM unit is the way to go with the MK2.

thats what i thought when i place the order for mine. but after thinking about it properly, you have to remember to remove the sat nav each time you leave the vehicle, remember to clean the window where the sucker has been, you have cables hanging everywhere, plus you also have the possiblity of loosing or damaging it whilst its out the car. with a built in one you have none of these problems !! just my opinion!! :D

and im glad someone else asked this as i was wondering too. glad you can put the maps on an sd card !!

and talking of the cost of buying a new sat nav cd, my bro went to VW to get a replacement cd for his Toureg and they wanted in the region of £200 !! :-o

Thats a lot for the maps, you can get them direct from TeleAtlas for about £114.
Another plus point for the Seat factory fit Sat nav it also uses the Traffic Master network to give dynamic route guidence.

Thanks for the replies guys... at least i know i can use an SD card and play music off the same media.

My personally reasons for getting the option was that i wanted a navigation system that was integrated for the same reasons given above but the media pack also includes the bluetooth (which has been mentioned above) and extends the capability of the MFD unit.

I also happened to chose the convenience pack which has rear parking sensors, these link to the media system so i get the car graphic on the display with the lines around the back etc... its nothing more than a tarty gadget but i dont care :D

I also think it looks pretty cool

I am afraid you dont get the graphics on the display with the convenience pack reversing sensors, you only get it if you have the front and rear sensors.

Now now. It would be boring if we all liked the same thing, wouldn't it?
