Getting the SKC code in order to program new keys?

Hello all, first post so be gentle! :D

I bought a 55 plate FR TDI yesterday and it came with only one key. I've been reading up on how to pair up another key fob and it seems that I need the SKC code (which apparently SEAT dealers don't have access to now).

Is it possible to use one of the cheap versions of vag-tacho found on ebay to pull the SKC code from the ECU? In the blurb for vag-tacho (version 2.5) it says:

Almost all VDO dashes for VW/Seat/Skoda up to year 2004 read/write eeprom!

Does this mean it supports all 1M Leons or was something changed in the 2005 models? Are some 1M leons Immo2 and some Immo3? I've been unable to get a concrete answer to this on the web!

I haven't made 15 posts so I can't make a direct link to the vag-tacho cable I was looking at on ebay but if you search for "VAG 2.5 TACHO Dash Correct Correction Tool" you should find it.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

I got Vag-tacho and it didn't work with my 51 plate Mk1, although some people have got it to work. Other OBD tools are available, just search for SKC and loads pop up.

I ended up taking mine to Ted Johnson's in Barnsley (don't know if it's near you) and they coded the new keys in. They can't give out the SKC now as the car needs to be connected to Seat/VAG HQ.

Do you know what version immobiliser you have? It must be down to some differences in the components of the car if it works for some people and not for others. Would be good to know for sure if it will work. VAG COM can tell you what immobiliser you have I think.

Anyone else got it to work on a later Leon 1M?

K+CAN Commander V1.4 off fleebay worked for me on an 05 LCR, it took a lot of playing around with though, i retrieved about 5 codes in total and one of them worked for programming the keys,:lol:

vag-tacho didn't work for me!

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to go for VAG K+CAN Commander and see if I can get it to pull the SKC key. If it works then I'll document all the steps and put them up on a wiki somewhere, as all the info seems to be scattered about randomly at the moment! :)

they don't have access to them to give away admittedly but if they have the car there they can find it out and code it for ya still

seat should be able to retrieve the SKC but it is a temporary one that only lasts a day. ie so they can work on it.
expect to pay over £100 for the privalige however

Not true mate, Seat dealership staff have no access to the immo codes, when keys, dash pods etc are coded to the vehicle it is done through a system called Geko and connects directly through the VAS machines to the VAG database so they are never displayed.

The meathod of coding your on about is called "rolling coding" and has only just started to appear on some late model seats. It changes every time the key is placed in the ignition so when you wish programme new keys the coding has to be placed on hold before it can take place.

No dealership has access to read the codes unless they have 3rd party equipment, so if they want the codes to use they must send a special request to seat uk in order to view them.

The immobiliser in the 1m leons is immo2.

There is a possibility that from 1999-2004 it is immo2 then from mid 2004 to mid 2005 its immo3 but i'm sure its mostly immo2 in the 1m then immo3 in the 1p.

sorry yes you are correct. i thought they showed the temp code when it was connected, but didnt last long. ie you couldnt watch over the operators shoulder to get the code then ask someone to code clocks etc for you

And at the end of the day if someone wants your car they'll just break into your house and help themselves to they keys, then all the hardwork that vag put into designing the alarm system is useless.:blink:

as said above they can do it themselves on site but are unable to just 'hand out' the codes mainly becuase people could/have used the info to steal cars in the past, security in it's essence needs to be harder to break the better as it saves the clever thief finding a way round it so easily.

i remember the days when cosworth's were stolen simply by taking the boot lock into the local dealer and asking for a key to match it :rolleyes:

sadly car's have become so secure now that it is easier to break in the house or knock on the door and flatten ya to get em so whatever is done security wise criminals will adapt to suit

just think when biometrics gets added to your car, will we be waking up to see a thug trying to chop our thumbs off ? :wtf:

typical,

have heard down the grape vine , that you can by coders , which scan for an alarm code to de activate ,

theres alot of VXR's going missing up my way , similar scenario


also heard that someone in the VAG dealerships gets their hands on keys for a price

that GPS blocker , is it anygood for jamming speed cameras
