Problems with new car!!

Hi all,

I've just picked up my new car today. It's a 2005 (55) ibiza 1.4 sport.

Half way home from the garage I had a few beeps come from the dash and some lights came on (ABS, Handbrake etc).

I pulled over and switched the car off, left it a minute them switched it back on. All of the lights went out except for the engine management light! Also the speedo stopped working. After restarting the car again the speedo started working but the engine management light is still on.

The car seems to run and drive ok but obviously something is wrong!

There is also an issue when braking, when coming to a complete stop, just before the car stops I get a horrible grinding noise from the brakes and vibration through the brake pedal. It feels a bit like the ABS kicking in but a lot harder. Also i'm going too slow and not braking hard enough for it to be this!

I'm going back to the garage tomorrow but would like to know if somebody else has suffered from the same problems or has any idea what could be wrong? The more ammo i've got for tomorrow the better!!

Cheers for reading!

Well, what did they say? Or did you get the usual "book it in"? If its a Seat garage they will be able to get a full breakdown of the logged fault codes. Went with my daughter to get her brand new Ibiza 1.4 SC - it seems to be okay, well it a lot more refined than the 6K Ibiza she traded in - 17" wheels though (look out kerbs!), I don't think that she will miss the heavy cable clutch on her previous car. Sorry no one replied to your post, but maybe it was a bit late for a Friday. Don't lose heart, keep posting when you feel the need!

Sounds like a wheel speed sensor fault, your speedo picks its signal up from the abs sensor, usually front left wheel. Also if this is reading incorrectly this can cause your abs to kick in, it thinks the wheel has stopped turning. Needs checking and the garage should be footing the bill but doesn't sound like a major problem.

Yeh I got the usual book it in! It was a Chevrolet dealership that we got it from but they have Seat dealership close by (where the car originally came from) so they said they'll send it to them for diagnosis!!

I drove it back to the garage today and it was a nice drive, i wasn't expecting the clutch to be so light!

thanks for the reply! I'm sure they'll be many more posts!!

Yeh it seems as though you've got it spot on! Ity was the ABS light that was coming on as well as the power steering and a flashing handbrake light. Hopefully just a dodgy sensor as you say.

We got 3 months warranty chucked in as part of the deal so they should foot the bill!
