Removing oil level sensor

Hello.

I'm fitting a shallower sump to my TDI, on the new sump i haven't got the mounting for the oil level sensor.

Can I remove the sensor?
Will it cause a fault code/warning?
Will I have to link the wire's to prevent a warning?
Or is it something which will have to be switched off with vag com?

Should offer some more ground clearance, and not crack if caught.

Does anyone have a diagram of the level sensor setup?
Maybe I can replace the sensor with a resistor, to keep the warnings happy.

That sump part number is for a petrol engined VW New Beetle, from Mexico. Same part is fitted to some Polo engines in this country.

Are you looking at buying this from PSI Tuning by any chance, at £155 + vat? The same part from VAG dealers is round about £100....

No, I already have it. Bought it from VAG a while ago. Worked out around £100 with the pickup.

Can anyone recomend somebody who can turn my low level warning off with VAG-COM?

I think you have to plug a resistor into the wires which go to the sensor. Once you have taken your sump off connect a multimeter up to the wires and move the switch about to see how resistance changes with change of posistion.

Do you have a diagram fro the connector. As there are three wire's

I stripped down the original sensor, and it's quite detailed. Need a Diagram to power it up on the bench and measure the output.

The unit has two sensors in it, oil level (a simple OK/Low swiitch) and oil temperature (which may also be a simple OK/Too High switch

Not all cars have the level and temperature sensor.

Brown wire is earth
Yellow/black is power
Brown/Blue is the sensor output

Thanks for the info, i have heard some say it might have a temp sensor in to. And would make sense if it was a too high switch, with there being only one sensor output.

I'll check what wire colour goes to which pin, and then power the sensor up on the bench, and see if i can measure the output.
