in reply to your text (you know it takes me half an hour do write "yes"! haha) if you are going to paint the wheels over the origional paint (recommended) then you'll need to go to Halfrauds and get a Project Pack of sandpaper which will give you everything from ally oxide paper to 12 or 1500 grit, filler primer and the paint. If you are going for Matte black (do it do it!!) then you probably won't need a clearcoat, most matte paints are hardcore and come with it, but you can get a Matte finish clearcoat, I know a bloke who did a Cayenne matte black and he said the laquer was the hardest part.
I have a bar of soap and filler which you'll also need for the refurb. Take the wheels to 2U (or I can for you) just to break the bead so you can paint right inside the lip.

if you come loaded with a beer and a torch I'll show you all the bits in the garage. I take it it's half term soon?
EDIT: the EVO mag you gave me has a baby blue Noble with black wheels and yellow brakes.... delishhhh!

Nice one Pete. Got another set of wheels on the way, so will have the tyres put on those while I paint the originals (job for half-term which is next week!)
The process I was going with would be... sanding the wheels down (coarse-to-fine), few layers of primer, few layers of paint. The hardest part will be smoothing some of the curbage.... might need your help/advice with that mate!
Just a few pctures of my latest LED sidelight bulbs and new bonnet bra (crappy dark garage pic!)
Will get some day-time pictures up soon! And progress pictures of my wheel refurb too.....

yeah, i wanted to do my wheels with chemical metal but it was very dear and a reputable wheel refurber round ere said he uses body filler, so if it's good enough for him.... but I agree, chem metal probably would be better. It held a gearbox together after ken dropped it!
when you say coarse, you'll probably find you can start pretty fine on the face of your wheels as they are in good nick and you can't beat the ally oxide paper for when the water has gone under the paint into the ally, or baked in brakedust.

Here are the new wheels I picked up today...
The question is... what shall I do?
Option A: refurb new wheels in matt black and sell "Starfish" alloys
Option B: swap wheels, refurb "Starfish" alloys in matt black, replace on car and sell new wheels
Option C: refurb new wheels (matt black), swap over and then refurb "Starfish" alloys (matt black) then decide?
What are your thoughts people?

Well, fitted the alloys this afternoon and to be honest I don't really like them. The wheels are in fantastic condition (brand new basically) but are a really bright silver and I don't like the colour much. I picked them up for a great price, so I don't think I will have any trouble getting back what I paid for them when I do sell them on. I might like them more if they were a different colour! Anyway, I have decided to refurb my original alloys and sell these on when the refurbed ones are back on the car...
Anyway, the refurb of my starfish alloys has begun this evening so I will post updates as I go...
No they don't. I reckon they would look better if the spokes were dished the other way.

I was looking for a set to put on the car while I refurb mine anyway... just thought these were too cheap to pass up really. Will make my money back on them when I sell them on so they will do for now! Hope to get my wheels done this week as I have it off work. All day tomorrow for prepping I think, then one day for primer and one day for paint! Tyres back on and back on the car Saturday... probably! Not much difference in weight TBH. Sanding will take a bit, but my wheels are in such good condition still it will just be to form a key for the primer to bond to.
are the kerb marks you mention able to be sanded and primed etc or have you got to use some sort of filler on them?
