Good results from the BMC CDA and Piper Cross viper...

Open K&N and pipercross filters have there haters and drilled air boxes with performance filters also have been given a few shouts over the years.

I used the viper on mine as came across a bargain on ebay...

usin the K & N panel filter does it make your car sound louder ?? like an air filter would. . . because i'm lookin to by something for my airbox or an induction kit .

well i've had one since i owned the car, it used to have a drilled airbox (but the previous owner drilled the WHOLE box lol, and then fibre glassed it closed again) and it had severe "heat lag" (due to the heat of the engine/especially the inlet) so i put a normal box back on, and works a treat!

you can drill your airbox link

Standard Box, K&N Filter an drilled box, also with a cold feed running now. so similar to above and honestly cant argue with that!!

got a K&N dont like it want a pipercross thinkin of making a heat sheild for it as it does get a bit of a lag wen it sucks hot air in

ive often thought about some sort of heat sheild construction....or wing vents.

but the cost of wing vents is expensive.

i thought the same mate!
best thing would be a heat shield! could make one outta that plastic (like what double glazing is made from) make a half box cover

Had BMC CDA airbox and custom made inlet pipe and it worked a treat although scared the $hit out of small children and old people on load, neibours weren't to keen either.
Made a great noise but would notice the difference if the cold air feed came off due to the underbonnet heat.

Think i'm going to go for drilled airbox and piperx or K&N filter this time.

Car came with a k&n cone which is shocking once the engine heats up, don't bother with these.

Telford ay it...
Remove the foglights and carbon canister and fit a 100mm cold airfeed to a butchered standard airbox (cut out hot air system and make a hole for the cold feed). Clean standard panel filter probably does a more than good enough job.

Sorry for OT, but can you describe the symptoms of heat lag? I have the 2.0 8v, previous guy fitted a k+n cone filter thing, but when the car is hot the top end acceleration is terrible, and top speed is rather reduced.
Still looking for a standard airbox anyway

i binned one in a clear out a few weeks back, bugger !

ive had my open K&N cone on now for ages (with a FK SS induction pipe) i cant even remember what it was like before now so cant tell on the lag thing.

There is pleanty of space for a air feed in an 8v engine.

I would do a jenk and remove than can thing but dont want to blow up....:drive1:

i think i mite have to construct a heat sheild for round the cone guna have a look get a nice thin sheet of metal a little set of snips a drill an it should be a good 1

yeah just how you described! felt like it was being restricted, now it's sweet as a nut mate!

i was thinking that, but plastic will be better for heat (and for weight) i was thinking of a 3-side box, then have a hole so the cone can sit inbetween the shield, so it will hold it in also
shame i don't wanna get a cone, i'm happy with my setup :D
