Hi all,

I can not believe my luck today of all days as today is my birthday and not only did the central heating in my house decide to die but now my car is playing silly buggers!

Booked my car in for a full service and my local VAG performance garage and car was dropped off to me all running well. Until i went to take it out to visit my parents house that is about 10 miles away.

All was running well and car felt very smooth after service until
I when to join the motorway and all of a sudden it felt like the power just cut out! Then light 13 in the manual "Diagnosis*/Excess of Pollution light started flashing

I pulled over and my exhaust now sounds like a Subaru impreza twice as loud than normal and sounds like a chugging sound, when i go to move the car forward it feels like the car is jolting forward and i feel vibrations through the clutch peddle  I can also smell like a burning rubber kind of smell?

Managed to get it home after 5 miles of driving at 30mph but am gutted as only just spend £250 treating it to a full service... now what’s going on?

Please help! Should i take it back to garage that serviced it?

Thanks for the help.

Regards the sad birthday boy :headhurt:

The Subaru sound is usually a dead give away that your not running on all cylinders.

It sounds much worse if it's a petrol car but not sure what you have so I'd say if it is a petrol then check the plugs and leads as if they've just been changed its probably just that ones come off or is loose.

Hope you get it sorted.

first thing i'd do is check all the fluid levels, in particular the oil level. mine went to a vag "specialist" and the oil level was dangerously too high...

this might not have anything to do with what's wrong, but it gives you an idea of the quality of work

good luck! (& happy birthday)

Could be a few things, as said oil full? could be spark plugs not tight and blew coil pack off, coilpack was dieing and has now give up?

Seriously, if its been into a garage, take it back, dont mess about, if they try to fob you off demanding money, take it further.

Would put money on coilpack failure, same happened to me a month ago,had full service, decided to give it a bit of beans on way home and POP,limped back to dealers and they diagnosed coilpack failure and swapped it there and then.:)

Hope its as minor a problem as that mate.

coil packs can fail at any time...
if it has had new plugs the coil packs would have had to have been removed, so as long as they are on there securely now, and you still have the misfire, its likely died. They do that from time to time. VAG's gift to us owners, along with unreliable MAF sensors from bosch

replace all 4 with new is my advise.

Shame there is no prize to win as you would all be right,

Called up and they came over to my house and plugged into diagnostics, and it came up with piston one misfiring, changed the coil pack over with 2 and then took it round the block, light started flashing again and so ran Diag = misfire in piston 2.

So yes it was the coil pack and he is going to get me another one but says its not because of the service and that it will cost me £30.

Ah , not a bad ending then
I must admit , as one has gone , it may be that it is worth replacing all 4 , just as a prcaution
The service will not cause it to go
very common issue the coil packs :( sorry
