Very strange for the pump and temp sender to fail together. have you felt like the coolant pipe with the sender in to check the heats getting all the way round?

Almost sounds like an obstruction.

Hope youve caught it.

strange water loss PART 2

right after being recovered on saturday i have found that my water pump is fooked. so today i rang SEAT in huddersfield and they gave my prices like this.... for cambelt change only £181.44 and water pump change only £192.47 or for both at same time £373.05 !!!! how the hell can they charge £192.42 extra for doing the water pump ??? after all they have to remove the cambelt to do it. but also if the head has gone then as above plus £25 pressure test plus cost of doing head grand total £972 :-o:-o im not sure what to do as i love the car but thats alot of money to spend of the head has gone i also rang a local garage and they said £850+vat so no cheaper.... it a 2000 model but i love it !!!!!! what would you do ???

You've got to think
What will you get for the Leon with a wrecked engine?
What would you buy after that?
How much will it cost?
Compared to a £950 bill

I would consider trading it into a dealer and try and get a newer cupra(mk1) or cupra r. Why not price the water pump and then ask the dealer if you had to buy the timing belt kit yourself if they would fit that instead of the old belt and also ask if there would be a charge for it. I got my water pump replaced last month under warranty and asked the dealer this and they told me that would be fine as they already had the car stripped down there would be no extra charge. All i had to pay was £85 for the timing belt kit. It wasn't a seat dealer that done the repair though, i had to get the repair done from the dealer i bought the car from.
Why don't you pay the £25 to get the car pressure tested first then make your decission from there. If all is fine you could do what you had planned to do with the warranty thing.;)

If the pump is broken up maybe it is blocking the waterways?

If the pump is bust, some have a leak away hole to let it escape, maybe it is comming out of there?

the only place i can think it has gone is when it has boiled over its gone through the overflow pipe on the expansion bottle... is there a bleed valve on any of the pipes ??

If its any use, when I was pricing my waterpump etc, I was told you won't know if your pump packs up until you get the steam etc as the water won't pass the temp sender when they go.

No expert myself but might explain why it still says 90?

When the pump failed on my wiesel Saab a few months ago, the temp guage went off the scale and water was pouring from the waterpump, still drove it 30 miles home as it went after midnight on a motorway. (and it was a company car) on my way back form jolly bobs.
