car is :censored: me off now..... still losing water 2ltrs in 75 miles. BUT when i stop to check it the expansion tank is 3/4 full but after 1hr of cooling down level drops to below half if not more.... other thing is that when its hot i can hear the water gushing around the pipes when the engine is OFF or could it be air ???? still no mayo or white smoke and no leaks anywhere................:confused:

If you can get your head pressure tested for £30 just have it done, at least your going to find out if its your head gasket or not, the garage might be able to shed some light on your problem too. If the waters getting into the combustion chamber will he still need his head skimming?

sorry if this has been asked.. i havnt read the whole tread.

do u have wet carpets at all?

my passenger carpet was soaked through, mechanic said its the pollen filter casing which needs a new seal. so got to work stripping out the car with help from a friend, put the fans on so heat up the car so the carpets can dry and found water dripping fast out of both the front bits where the air comes from. mechanic said its the heater matrix instead (£69), which is behind the centre of the dashboard. which should be gettin replaced on tuesday. need radio keys though :(

so it could even be ur heater matrix maybe??? my sound proofing in the back half was dripping as i carried it through the house and i got a wet foot taking it out lol.

rich, sorry for the essay

ok now its got major...... was driving today stopped after 30 miles water all ok. but after 61 miles the oil light come on and beeped 3 times but oil was fine before i set off as i checked it. anyway after oil light come on i was only 1.5 miles from a garage so just as i got to the slip for the garage the engine cuts out !!!!!!!!!! temp gauge was on 90 and also temp on secret controls was on 90.... pulled it over and got out to check things over well the water was boiling away in the expansion tank, steam p!ssing from overflow pipe, smoke come pooring from the engine when i removed the oil cap and also from dip stick. car would not restart...... so called out green flag only tuck 30 mins guy looking at it and asked to to start it so i did expecting it not to start but it did filled up water and it boiled over again... he said that the oil light come on due to either major air lock or water pump not working and the oil has just boiled away :help:. car was recovered back home oil now very black with a strange smell from the engine  do you peeps think that the water pump could do this ??? also what damage could have been done to engine with oil boiling and cutting out ????? car still starts and drives with no rattles or knocks but cooking the engine cant be good :cry:

ok it says STOP but i was unable to stop as i was on the busy A1 i did slow to 45mph. the recovery bloke says that its boiled the oil as the water system has an airlock or water pump is not working so its the oil that has boiled due to water not flowing through system. he did have engine running for over 30 mins trying to free the airlock but with no luck... so have to be recovered back.

the return pipe that runs alone the firewall is very hot and is returning water back to the expansion bottle. but when the engine is idleing with the cap off the expansion bottle i can see that water is being pushed up from the outlet pipe at the bottom of bottle.... car was running perfect no miss fire or cutting out... but it still ticks over fine...

Mine self bled when the thermostat was done, I'm inclined to say water pump, but it's returning back to the expansion bottle, but, why is returning back through the "outlet"??

I've seen water pumps crack in 2 through out the vw range, they still circulate water back to the expansion tank on idle but do not circulate the coolant properly when under full load. With the water pressurising so much i would definatly get a pressure check done, or have a chemicle cross contamination test carried out to see if the exhaust gas is entering the coolant system.

good luck mate
