Window Tinting

Tinting the front windows WILL attract unwanted attention not thieves trying to look in but the police not worth it is all I am saying and trying to see why you have bothered.

Tinting the fronts with the lightest tint gives it the extra glare just to finish the rest of the car off. Thats why I did it, Ive always tinted windows on my cars and this is the first one to have the fronts done because I thought the same as you "What is the point" but having done it on my Leon I think it just adds that little bit extra and makes it look a lot better.

Thieves are always going to be atracted to your car if it has been modded in any way or not. The tint on the front is not noticable to someone that is not looking for it. I have friends which dont realise that they are tinted and you cant tell even if you put the window down. The guy who has doen them has done a top job on them.

Don't get me wrong I technically know it is illegal but at the same time if a copper manages to notice without a machine on him I would really impressed.

No they usually stop people because they can see the rear windows are tinted which everyone can notice then they measure the front ones, alot of them have the tint man machines now. Interesting points but this is the main reason I will not bother as as soon as the rear are done I am likely to be pulled so they can check the fronts and I don't want to pay the fine and the hassle of removing tints I have paid for.

if i ever had mine tinted it would have to be tints all around, i think tinting just parts (e.g just the back windows) looks awful. also i think if a cars too tinted it can look a bit chavvy, if i did mine it would probably be a lowish %, maybe 20-30

I have pressed metal plates, but the legal ones from Dubmeister, waiting to be pulled like Boo on here has the cop was quite surprised/embarrassed when she pointed out they were legal.

Well that's how I see it on all these t.v police shows they pull cars with tinted windows on the rear then check the fronts and it makes sense as you say they are very likely to be illegal on the fronts.

yeh they definately do pull people over it is modified. I think though they just want to make sure that the car is all insured MOT's etc and statistics probably show that the younger driver is more likely to not have all the right documents on the car which means that they will always stop us more. Unfortunately we all get tarred with the same brush when it comes to cops as soon as you start modifying a car you become a "boy racer" and "boy racers" seen to be more aggressive drivers and thats why I think they stop us so often.

Touch wood I havent been stopped in the Leon yet and it is quite surprising because we have a massive boy racer problem around our town and because i use the car to deliver food they have never even looked at stopping me. Which I dont mind obviously.

yet to be pulled in my mk4 after almost a year of ownership! i have the legal dubmiester plates, but see so many obviously illegal ones and it drives me mad.

I also see cars which have totally blacked out front windows and really wonder how the police either dont see them or stop them!

take the reg plates down on both...(ones with illegal plates and illegally tinted windows)

Just hand them in to your local station with brief description...(e.g: hh55 tks illegal plates, tv57 klj illegal tints)....we can do the rest from there

Ha ha maybe I don't get pulled cos I am a woman then bonus! I guess most of our cars on here are modded with Set parts so not so bad i.e no obvious bodykit so less attention. I can see why for th reason you say they get pulled.
I have only been stopped twice, once they were obviously stopping cars that night to check the lights etc were all okay and the second time I was accused of texting while driving which was complete load of crap as I was driving 1 minute up the road to work and I really hate people that use the phone while driving. I said all this and they just said oh on your way then!?
I do not mind being stopped if there is a reason.

haha as a woman...you're more likely to get stopped by a woman officer...i know when i go out with a couple of women they pull more "girl racers" that lads

and the only way i can see someone stopping you is if you'd swerved without realising it...i'm out on the motorways alot and on i'd say about 85% of the people i pull over it's becasue of texting....and it's all down to the fact that they swerve as they're not really looking, or they really slow down alot as they're not concentrating....

I can't have swerved it was through town doing 30 or less only driving for literally 1 minute! They didn't look at anything else on the car so it wasn't an excuse, he said you have a silver phone you were texting. I was like er no my phone is in my bag and it is black!
Don't really have traffic cops or anything round here so not many people here get stopped much unless they go on the dual carriageway and I don't drive as much as I used to as my work is a few mins down the road.
I don't think my car even looks modified anyway apart from the wheels.
Tinted windows I expect I will get pulled over when I venture out but I wont' touch the fronts not worth the hassle!

I know it is not worth the hassle but around where we are they are not too bad on tinted windows they do look for drivers that are uninsured and the people that drive up and down the same street about 100 times and that is no exaggeration.

Near where I live there are loads of cars ranging from chavved up bangers to school-run MPVs with really dark tints all round - have never seen anyone had to have them removed.

I'm thinking of getting mine done at the moment - I have been charged £180 for the rear 3 windows from a place in Peterborough. I thought it was a bit pricey but not too bad, but now seeing that a lot of people have had it done for £150 or less, I am not so sure.
Does anyone have any details of places near Peterborough that I can get a quote from for less than the £180 I have currently been quoted?!
