misfire on 1.9 tdi

ive got a 05 Altea 1.9 tdi which has the symtoms of a misfire, on medium revs slight engine strain you can feel the misfire and puffs off smoke out the back, ive just changed all the filters and oil.
fitted a new maf senor as the that faulty about 2 months ago
the VAG is showing a glow plug fault but i wouldnt of thought this would cause the misfire
any ideas?

without the glow plug the cylinder wouldn't fire(as the cylinder wouldn't reach correct temp for combustion). once the engine is warm the plugs are not used (as far as i know)

best bet would be replacing the plug!

Glowplugs only actually work when the outside temperature is down towards freezing point. You may have a faulty glowplug but that certainly isn't your problem here.

Is your misfire round about 1700 2200 rpm by any chance?

The glow plug fault is a red herring -- it has nothing to do with your problem.

This sounds like a possible injector issue. If you have a pumpe-duse (PD) engine, then it might also be a cam lobe problem.

yes the misfire is between 1700 2000 rpm

There's a software update thats supposed to solve this problem. As glynnd has pointed out its a fault with the egr valve, more specificly the activation programming.

That or its the injector loom or in very rare cases an injector.
