I read this test in Performance car magazine some months ago, might be worth looking for a back issue. Never read EGO magazine
Hi ALL
Only my 2p worth....
First off.... Poverty i do not think for 1 minute a std K1 will get any where close to an
Evo340.....the Evo would...cough cough leave you in its dust ....Thats not beging nasty just fact....
The Evo would get to 100 and be waiting around for a full 5 secs before you get there in a K1...
Also the super ayc allows the Evo to put all its power to which every wheel has the most grip....front or back, left or right side....
this works not only fantastic in the wet but also in the dry when exiting a slow to medium speed corner.
Also remember the Evo has gearing to suit getting to 120mph as quickly as possible.
A cupra with 330bhp ish would give the Evo 320/340 a good run for its money im sure...but like most things it is hard to judge unless a good driver test's both around the same track in the same conditions...
Even then i would put my money on the Evo.. the entry and exit speed would be much higher with the Evo.
I have had many 1.8t cars (Leon R - Ibiza Cupra & 4 TT's ALSO not forgetting the first A4DTM with the 2.0ltr tsfi engine to be mapped by revo in the uk)
Yes all very good cars once mapped without a doubt but.....Not in the same class as an Evo in my humble oppinion....
And you must also remember you may mod/tune your leon/ibiza.... but also the same can be said for scoobie or evo owners.....
A modded leon will get close to a std Evo 300/320.....BUT a modded leon v modded Evo is game over as the Evo can get over 400 bhp & 400 torques for very little £ spent....
All the best..

Hi All
Poverty...Cheers for your quick and honest reply...
Yes i have been in a std k1 nice car...But not as quick as the A4dtm i had tuned with Revo...
I love the seat brand & vag group cars as a whole....
Like i said i have owned many and all were tuned using Revo or Apr....
The only car i have run up against that was fwd that could offer any fight against an
Evo with 300bhp around a B-road or track was a R26R (Very quick and it did go around the corners..)
After going in the new Focus RS ... yes good all around car thats quick on the b-roads but even thats no match for a Evo 8/9 with 320/340bhp....
Also remember the Rs has a 2.5 engine which helps with torque & a trick revo knuckle system.....
Not knocking the cupras (ibiza or leon) one bit....they are good cars.....
But racing around a track saying you beat x,y or z is a little bit pi55ing in the wind UNLESS you have the same driver try both......im sure my mom could take say... an Evo out on track and i would beat her in a fiat 500 but that does not for 1 minute mean the fiat is the better car.......

still not conivced a K1 will beat an evo in a straight line sprint, if anything i would have thought that would be its best party piece. Its got the power and the electronics to to mention awd. With the Focus it seems 340 is the limit with most tuners at the moment, Mountune were looking at offering a factory backed kit but it seems they cannot offer a warranty which means the car must be on the limit of being reliable. I think Jamsport are running 375bhp though ...

I know 4wd weighs something but in a straight forward drag race traction is king, whats an evos time to 60 something like 4.5 seconds, out of all the cars at GTi international this year i'm sure all of the ones that were in the 3's were 4wd, the S3 was pretty quick for a standard car.
awd or rwd is the only way to go above 350whp, i would even say 300whp .
Hi All
Poverty, i have been looking in to transmission lost over last hour or so...
My findings are as follows on an Evo it is about 40/45 bhp...
The K1 is about 15/25kgs lighter than an Evo 9 ...
K1 = 1385/1375....
Evo 9 = 1400....
Now bear in mind not all but a fair few Evos run 400bhp/400 torques....this is the std bench mark for most owners...
As this is easy to achive for about £1.5k or less on Evo's 7,8,9
This would include......
Remap....ecutek
Uprated fuel pump.... (not for fq360 this is already done)
Racing suction kit...... ie hks or aps
Decat centre section or racing cat on cars with hks superdragger exhaust... (not 360)
Iridium plugs....hks
Bov..... hks or aps...etc
The Evo in a straight line sprint 0 - 100 with 400bhp should achive this in around 9.19
& 60 - 100 in 5.52... and should reach around 170/175mph top end....
The K1 would need 360 bhp to do the 0 - 100 in 10.23 & 60 - 100 in 5.53
I used lets torque to calculate the times..not ideal but close enough
Also the ecutek system can hold up to 8 maps in its memory... and you can have a mild form of anti lag installed & launch control...
This will also help 0-60 times and reduces lag when rolling....
But the big advantage is the Evo uses a fully closed deck engine... (google )

Mmmm 1.5k just to get a evo to 400k. Cheaper tuning than the already cheap cupra.
How much would it cost to get a evo to 500hp?
What sort of quarter mile times do 400hp evos do?
End of the day evo is a superior car, but I enjoy being a underdog with a trick up my sleeve for now, until im old enough to get a insurance company to consider me on a evo.
You need uprated engine internals and a big turbo among other things to get to 500bhp in an Evo, same as you would in a Cupra.
Good luck with 500bhp on stock internals
