hi people five things,

firstly, how is everyone dealing with the tyre squeal that u get when throwing the car into a corner? ive driven a 150cdti astra and not even that sounded like the leon...

secondly, after a re-map, how are people dealin with the black smoke/dpf issue, or does that get sorted when the re-map gets done?

thirdly, ive have known a couple of people now, who have re-mapped their cars and then theor sensors have been playin then havoc? is this a common problem amongst seat leon also?

fourthly, when I line the FR 170 TDI with a stage 1 re-map up against a stock 07 plate S3, will the diesel have enough torque to stick to it or will it need a stage 2 re-map?

and finally, can u go back to seat dealers and get factory xenons onn ur car? if so, how much will this be lookin to cost?

replies much appreciated!

Tyre squeel is prob to do with cheap tyres or your tracking/geometry is out.

Black smoke  The DPF collects it all up and burns it off later when the DPF is nice and hot. If you do short trips you're fooked.

S3, who knows, it's street racing and SCN doesn't do street racing.

Xenons, yes but it will cost you.

All of these things have been covered before, with a little go on the search button there will be hours of reading for you.

From a standing start - not a chance (S3's are very quick for their relative power output - a standard Cupra would have a hard time holding onto one in this scenario (especially if the S3 has DSG and launch control) - the lack of 4WD kills them in a standing start).

From a rolling start assuming both drivers are eager and capable you may be able to stick with it but the S3 will pull away once the speed climbs.

I saw a new(ish) S3 the other day (with the running lights) and coming off a roundabout i hung with it up to 70 in my stock FR TDI, but I think it had a problem as the S3 was pumping out a fair bit of black smoke which I thought wasn't right . Think the guy in the S3 must have been having kittens with a stock FR TDI keeping up with him hehehehe. :)

yer tdi's are pretty tourque-y, i remeber keepin up to an R32 all the way around huddersfield ring road, im talkin like 6-7 mins worth of drivin jus glued to his bumper and i had budget tyre's! (a choice i wont be makn again - the squeal is terrorising!!)

are you sure that is was an s3 not a tdi conversion?

It must be comical reading stories on the Saxo / Vauxhall forums too...

"Yeah, on this long straight [private road] I stuck to the rear bumper of this new Seat Leon. He was really motoring, it had an FR or was it Cupra (??) badge on the back".

What actually happened was, the SEAT Leon driver was just driving normally from A to B, not even realising that some CHAV behind [in some inferior chav mobile] THOUGHT he was in a race with the Leon in front, believing his car was keeping up...

How do you know the S3 had his foot down, some prior arrangement with the driver to race off the roundabout, or?...

EDIT: Parkers performance stats..
Quattro (08) 3d 5.5 s 155 mph 261 bhp
Quattro 3d S Tronic 5.3 s 155 mph 261 bhp
Quattro 5d S Tronic 5.4 s 155 mph 261 bhp
Quattro 3d 5.5 s 155 mph 261 bhp

...The Leon (petrol) Cupra is 6.2 seconds to 60, with the Diesel FR being a couple of second higher.
