As some of you may have read Im having to change my expansion tank as soon as I get some dry weather (Hopefully tomorrow!!).

What is the best way to go about refilling the system? And getting rid of airlocks if any develop?

Looked in the Haynes but the description aint that great.

Thanks.

Craig.

fan wise won't matter at all, just temperature turned to hot so the whole water system is open for filling and air release

run the engine up to normal operating temp on your driveway with the heater set to hot. Tank cap off. Keep an eye on the level in the tank.

Right Ive filled the system up, all pipes are hot and I get the heaters are hot so there must not be any air leaks.

But now the temperature gauge only goes up quarter of the way up when running. When sitting stationary it goes up to half way but when you start moving again it goes back down to the quarter mark.

I fitted a new coolant sensor/thermostat at the same time. Should I be worried?? My fuel economy isnt really affected with it, if anything it has improved since before.

Thanks.

wouldnt worry about it personally... as long as water is deffinitely getting to the temp sensor, then itll be doing its job, and as long as it doesnt go over 1/2 way by much then id be happy with it personally...

my mum has an astra and the temp needle never stays at 1/2 way, its always below it

Its just weird thats all. Used me car to/from work today (20 miles journey) and the needle never got past the mark at quarter of the way up but the car was running absolutely spot on. When I came into my town and slowed to 30mph it crept up to just below halfway.

When I stopped outside my house I let the car idle for a minute or 2 and the needle went up to half way. I popped the bonnet and the coolant is definetely circulating as I could see it going back into the tank and all the pipes were hot and the heater in the car was hot.

Only good thing is that my fuel economy hasnt half increased. :bleh: :funk:

Yep I know what you mean. Im not complaining about the fuel economy increase!! :funk:

its probly the same any way with the price increase in fuel its a sad day when you see 110 at the pump for reg never mind 120 for super or v power personally fuel tax should be :banned:
