front wishbone bushes

Hi, i own a 1.2 ibiza mk4 and have been told that my bushes are worn, i've also been told that the cupra bushes will fit, i'm just wondering if anyone can help me. Is it true that they willl be the same fitting on the 1.2 and cupra. I'd rather fit the cupra because apparently they're stronger. cheers

Probably will fit but someone will be along shortly to confirm. I went to a stealer today and they quoted me £227 + parts to fit them to my 1.9 TDi. Standard bushes were £7, Cupra ones were £20 (worth it I'm told)

That price is for a pair of them - cupra bushes are around £9 each

yeh i got some cupra ones last week, it was £17 for the pair inc VAT, i just need to know if they fit my 1.2 before i pull my car to bits

The only cars that the definately fit are the Sport, FR and Cupra models.

If you look at the subframe that the wishbone mounts in to - you can see the bush from the back of the subframe.

You should be able to measure the diameter of the bush from there.

Also make sure that the wishbone has a hexagon shaped end to it.

To fit them you will need the correct tool OR you will need to create a tool from large washers and threaded rod. pulling the old ones out isn't too bad because the case is plastic - but pushing the new ones in is a bitch to do cos the case is metal.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT SET CORRECTLY AFTER DOING THIS JOB.

Some people have taken the subframes off to fit them - If you go this way it would be worth deciding if you want to uprate the anti-roll bar at the same time so you only need wheel alignment doing once.

just had mine done with standard one they are crap if you can fit the cupra ones go for it mine is the sport tdi. 15 for a pair from the dealer these are the solid cupra ones less body roll. mine garage charged 2 hrs work around 100 all in
dealer qouted around £250

and get this qwick fit £350 the dumbasses

Right so finally got round to getting my bushes fitted and the cupra's ones do actually fit on the 1.2, still knocking a little bit tho so i'm thinking maybe i need to change the wishbone bushes awell. Think im just gunna put it through the MOT this week and see if it fails or not.

But these are the wishbone bushes that you have replaced - as far as I can make out?! Maybe now check the ARB drop links - what age is your car - just in case its old enough to have the "duff" ARB fitted.

My bushes on my 1.4 were totally worn and the car sounded like a F reg volvo. Went to local garage, they charged £130 with labour and standard bushes compared to the £250 seat were quoting me (Y)

The horrible truth might be that the local garage has not thought about re-aligning the four wheels to each other!

Well your car is old enough to have been built with the older ARB that had the plastic end stops that eventually crack due to the steel below them rusting - then they break free and allow the ARB to "walk" side to side and bang off the front aluminium consoles. You can check the ARB end stops using a small magnet to see if they are plastic - the later ones had steel "washers" welded on to the bar instead of the plastic ones.

In the first place you should check the ARB drop links - to see if there is any play in the swivels at each end.

Lol, no don't think so. My local garage isn't a standard garage, it simply only carries out suspenion type work. My car performed and handled rubbish before as the dealer I brought from had done a shcoking job. Specalist spent around 3 hours working on it costing £130 and now it sounds, looks and feels amazing and the performance is second to none now. Hence the reason why i'm now keeping my Ibiza and fitting alloys etc..

I'd keep an eye on your tyres for uneven wear as these little cars do sometimes fool the independants with their repair requirements - but not the VAG independant specialists who have see all of this already - many times.

Hi i have an 05 Plate Ibiza Fr 130 TDI and i have changed the wishbone bushes twice now and had all wheels re alined everytime. but they keeop wearing out very quick.

From reading this thread it seems i should replace them with the ones from a cupra of the same age - correct?

other than the fact that the standards ones are rubbish for a car with that much grunt is there any other reason they are wearing out all the time?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my local garage have contacted the dealer directly and has been told to replace the full wishbone arm which seems a bit excessive to me.

fitted some 'cupra' solid ones to a 53 plate 1.2 last week

the solid ones are a lot more reliable and stronger than the half open standard junk

real pain to fit but we left the arms sat in boiling water (old thermostat tester) for 10 mins beforehand :):)

our greasey monkey here didn't swear at me so all went smooth for a change
