Cupra Boost Issues

Hi All,
I'm having a few issues with my car especially in third gear (sometimes all gears) at around 3500-4000RPM.
Recently I've had the following mods installed to my car, and I cant pinpoint exactly what the cause is and I'm hoping that someone can help.

Recently I've had the following installed - Place on the car.

Green Cotton Filter
Forge TIP 2nd hand
Forge 007P
Remap

The cotton filter was on before the Remap+TIP+007P and the car didn't have this problem.

I then took the car for a remap at a local re-mapper
(Who've got good reviews from all the VAG Folk in the area)

Whilst there he fitted the Forge TIP + 007P
Before fitting i noticed there was an oily... greasy substance in the TIP however no more so than the TIP that came off the car (The factory fitted one) So I can only assume this oily residue is kind of expected?

Ok so I drove home through constant traffic so I didnt get to test the car.
The first chance I had was a few days later and it started hesitating in that rough area of 3500-4000 rpm

Third gear is the best example @ 2000 rpm I can put my foot all the way to the floor
(I dont normally do this btw)
2500-2600rpm I get a nice surge of power as the turbo comes in, Puts me into the back of my seat. This continues to around 3400+ (around that area) and then Power Drops (Like its non Turbo) boost goes on, off on off on and then feels like (Possibly) 3/4 boost all the way to the end of the rev range un-interrupted.

Any ideas?
The fella ran a diagnostics and said my MAF is showing strange readings and that its pulling in 9grams of air instead of 4 grams at idle? Or something similar.

Anything else it could be and any way of checking?
I've booked the car in as its under warranty to have the MAF replaced and said that someone ran diagnostics on it and that the MAF is faulty.

However I don't want to be lumped with a bill if its not that - that's at fault?

so the car worked fine, you had it mapped then the issues started.......

lets prevent the guessing game

you have had it diagnosed, and the MAF is a possible issue - replace that and see what happens

looking at the car idle with VAG com plugged in is also not an effective diagnosis for what is wrong with a car - get some proper logs done

typically upping boost always highlights parts on their way out, yet it just speeds up the process of them failing

I wpuld say its a problem with the map mate.

I had a similar problem ant it turned out the was a problem with the map. I tryed a new MAF, new N75 valve all for nothing.

Get your mapper to do some logs and check the map.

When you say take some logs (I'm not very knowledgable)
What shall I say to the bloke? He's been back checked the map over, Taken it away and tweaked it for my mods so Technically its a stage 2 now.

He plugged his tools in and said its looking like its the MAF giving strange readings but wouldn't that cause problems all over the shop however?

this is sounding like a Chiptuner/chipwizards type person to me....say no more

what has he done to diagnose the issue? Looking at a car idling is not a method to diagnose an issue at all, and as said is an expensive way of replacing parts that may not need replacing

logs as in plugging VAG com into the diagnostic port of the car, going out for a spin and logging a set load of data i.e. boost, timing, air flow (MAF), intake temps etc etc

Tell him to do some logging, he should know what to do. Log the MAF under a power run and that will tell you if the MAF is dead. You should see around 170g/s for a mapped car, he should know that.

General logs would be: timing pull, requested vs actual boost, MAF, boost vs duty cycle, and fueling requested (lambda). But he should know this.

Cool, I didnt say he didnt know this ;) I just wanted to make sure before I asked :)

Not saying he does'nt either mate. But if he tryes to fob you off without at least doing a fill set of logs that both me and Jamie mentioned then I would ask for a refund and go elswhere...

If worst comes to worst I'll just have him replace my map with the default.
Grab the cash and go Elsewhere

Thanks for the Help fella's

He's a decent bloke, he'll do everything he can to sort you out I'm sure. It's reputations on the line when people go talking about problems without giving him chance to sort the problem. He's got Paul's Passat 99% sorted and that was in a PROPER state before it got to him. Give him every chance, I'm sure he'll get to the bottom of it. :)

He knows what logging is fella's, any mapper worth their salt does ;)

No doubt, I dont doubt him at all that's why I said he's got a really good reputation with VAG locals.
and so far hes done everything he can to help, hes been out in the van twice now.

M is a really nice guy and to be fair its not like hes not trying, I was just saying if worst comes to worst and he's totally 100% out of options I'll have to go elsewhere. However he's very helpful and I cant imagine that ever happening.

This post was mostly just to see if I could find out if it was definatly the MAF before putting it in the garage,They dont call them stealers for nothing and I cant afford much else at the moment ;) They'll try and make me pay whatever!

I also wasnt going to mention a name, I'm not into tarnashing peoples Rep's specially in a delicate community like VAG.
Just looking to find out exactly what the problem is without bothering him too much! I dont want to be messaging and texting them 10 times a week. I cant be their only customer!

I also didnt mean he didnt know what logging meant, I just wanted to know what it meant before asking :D

Of course, that's why I didn't mention his name either ;) Hope things work out for you. He'll want to get it sorted asap no doubt, it costs about a fiver to get over the bridge every time

as this isn't a name and shame thread and the guy is well known for providing a good service to the VAG community, then why not publicise his name, to let people know who it is and what a good job he does, therefore further promoting his business:blink:

Let me know the outcome of this, as my car is doing similar boost things, and more than likely is running a totally different map/brand to you. In my case I struggle to believe it's a map issue as it's a generic remap that's been used on other cars.

My Leon used to do it with Revo Stg 1 until I got to the bottom of it, which i think ended up being a split hose and dodgy N75.

Cheers Pabs!
Mines going in next week to the Seat dealer so It might be about a week before I update it with the results however I have discovered it does it once in third gear, twice or more in 4th and now in fifth above 80mph it does it a whole bunch of times.

Looks like its going in for a replacement MAF, if that doesnt solve it will probably be the N75 Valve. But I'll keep you posted.
