Tried to put pics, but haven't reached 15 posts yet so if you're interested to see them type:

then add

and then

Hopefully that works

The specs are on my previous post but its a 1.9 tdi sport 130 with 78k miles fully serviced till 53k then nothing in the service book.

It's very, very quick and I'm really impressed just wanted some advice really so here goes:

1. Anyone know of a good garage in Hampshire area? (Ideally near Winchester). Alternatively near Salisbury area?

2. Also, just been quoted from the Seat main dealer £155 for an overall inspection and oil change plus another £50 to check the condition of the cambelt (the guy I bought it from says it was done 400 miles ago but does not have any proof!).

3. Just thinking is it worth just having it done cambelt and waterpump. How much do people get charged for this?

4. I also noticed the power steering whines (very very quietly) during the first 5 minutes from cold. Is this normal or is the pump going?

5. Finally! - The glow plug light goes out very quickly but it still takes a few too many crankovers till it starts up (probably 3 seconds). Is this normal? I've put a bottle of redex last week and no more smoke.

Sorry if this is a bit long. Many thanks in advance!

the quote for inspection is about right for SEAT, i would check the cambelt just in case, and the glow plug light should go out quickly as the modern glow plugs are pre-heated so no need to wait for them to heat up. with regards to needed 2/3 cranks, could be a sign your starter motor is going

I'm afraid I don't really know garages around your local area. I use Westerham in Kent, who I've found to be good, but that is miles from you.

Definitely get the cambelt checked at the very least I'd say. I'd consider changing it anyway given the mileage on the car and the fact there is no documents to backup any cambelt change. If it snaps, an engine re-build is on the cards and that will potentially cost thousands.

Its only my opinion of course but I find it very hard to believe that there isn't a receipt or stamped book to prove that the cambelt was done if its just 400 miles ago. (I think its recommended to be changed every 4yrs/40k miles) If I wanted to sell a car in the near future I wouldn't spend c.£300 on a cambelt then not be able to back it up with evidence.

I've got the 100 HP Tdi and it starts almost instantly after the coil light goes out.

The whining sound on the steering I don't know a lot about, sounds like a check might be in order, because mine doesn't do that.

Hope some of that is of use

Here's an Update

Think will get the belt looked at by main dealer, as the seller now says he's going to give me a receipt this week for the cambelt change. I have 12 month AA warranty given by the seller (that's why desperately needed a reciept for the job)!!

anyone else offer suggestions with the power steering and starting issues please??

ta

EDIT - Is there a top-up level for the power steering? Can't seem to find it!

I mean the engine turns over for 2-3 seconds with the starter motor and then starts up. Could this still be the starter motor? It seems to turn the engine ok.

have the glow plugs checked...i would suggest getting someone to VAG-Com your car see if any faults come up (would also point out your power steering issue if one exists)

Power steering reservoir is under the battery (it has a green cap). A right pain to get at!

cheers folks for the advice.

I'm taking it to the seat dealers I think for an oil change and cambelt check. Then I'll know if the belts done 400 miles or not. Found a few garages which are not specifically VAG but are very good in Winchester. I used goodgaragescheme.com

Been quoted from £320 to £370 for cambelt and pump change (VAT included). Considering I have a 1.2 clio which cost me £350 that's not too bad.

I've been looking into the VAG-Com kit before I bought the car so I reckon I may buy the kit.
