Got a cupra R 225 54 reg and ive got an annoying squeeking noise coming from the bottom pully and it sounds like a sahgged taxi. I took the belt off and it still happening, i took the timing cover off and it stopped which i thought was odd, and now its back again. I also bent the plate at the back of the pully out the way as it was close, could it be rubbing on the timing belt? also how is the pully removed, the 4 allen bolts or the big centre nut? The timing belt is due soon anyway but want to rid of the squeek, ive only had it a week!

Well it decided to cut out before and luckyily i made it to the side of the road, i tried to start it again and it splutterd and missed like hell and then a cloud of smoke decended out of the dipstick area and out of the TIP. I took the timing cover off and the belt hadnt snapped, whipped the plugs out and number 2 is smashed to hell, the electrode is nackerd. I started to strp it down, inlet mani is off and the rest will be off tomorrow. Also the engine will no longer turn over, its locked up and the cam pully will only turn about 5degrees and then moves back so im thinking broken valves, but whats broke them is beyond me.

Im thinking this as it came up cam position sensor curcuit malfunction, i hope its just bent the vavles and not smashed them theh pistons and guides :(, il report back tomorow with pics, the plug is worst ive ever seen thats been smashed, there again there could be a broken valve in the cylinder

I'd go with the timing skipping. An easy check which it would definitely be worth your while doing is check the timing marks. I would think they will be similar on your engine to my AUQ engine, if so there is a mark on the exhaust cam pulley which lines up with a mark on the rocker cover, on the AUQ this is near the top of the pulley, then on the crank pulley itself is a mark which lines up with a mark on the lower timing case cover.

I have to say though as far as i'm aware a bent valve is as much use as a smashed one and will probably result in a dented piston too, bad news if that is the case.

Still taking the head off as the sparkplug is a mess and somthing has definatley gone, as it decided to take the valve out at the side of the road i wouldent think it has damaged the piston crown like it would driving the car, but an inspection will releal, and debris in cylinder may have taken out a ring as the porcelain off the plug is in there somewhere.

Yes obviously the head needs to come off, just thought it might be worth trying to establish if the timing has jumped

Thought itd be game over for the pistons. Are you in a rush for the parts or on a major budget?
Could be a nice excuse for uprating the internals ready for a huge turbo and mega power lol

Tension was more than fine i had a struggle to get it off as it was quite persished and hard, lets just hope it hasnt damaged the head and only need a set of pistons, i found a guy on here with a set and we delt at 80 quid, jus put some new rings on etc. Is there an gains to be had out of port and polish on these? just wondering while its off. also it was that locked up i have to do the timing from scratch :( also do the turbo - manifold bolts have to be male torx or can i replace them with conventional hi tensile hex?

Also where does uprated pistons & rods?

Are the inelt mani gaskets off awesome worth getting, the insulating one?
