Me again..

Wipers are stuck at their vertical position, can hear the motor running but not gripping anything until I push the wipers on and it picks up again. I'm assuming a tooth has come off a cog or something inside the motor.

I'm looking at replacement motor from Seat (seems to be around £160 ish!!!) and would appreciate a really quick guide on how to remove the old one as I'm probably going to have to do it myself tomorow outside my office.. AM I correct with this:

1 - Wiper arms off
2 - scuttle panel under bonnet off
3 - plastic scuttle panel that joins windscreen (through which wiper spindles pass) to come off

(removing this to gain access to bolts holding entire assembly left and right)

4 - un-bolt 3rd position holding wiper assembly to car body
5 - disconnect motor control plug

Have I missed anything or am I way off the mark?
Cheers again guys.

Ok I've got it on order, I believe it's Part number 6x0 955 119 according to ETKA and I hope my brief instructions above are correct. £108 from a VW dealer

I'm guessing the problem must be in the part of the motor assemly adapts the drive between the motor output and the crank arm.. maybe.. feel free to chip in if anybody can confirm any of this.

i'v gotta replace the mech on my cupra, the motor works ok...i think...

from the new mech i have, 3 bolts hold the whole thing in, then just disconnect the arms and remove mech, swap motors and put it back in...

if you figure out how to get the 2 nuts under the scuttle an easier wayt han by pulling most of it apart, let me know!

JB,

Meant to update this thread yesterday as I completed it without any issues, wipers now working way better.. (took the old motor apart, it was rusted up and the contact points internally had carved their own tracks in what was left of it!)

Leave the plastic panel which joins to the windscreen well alone - with a 10mm spanner you'll be able to get at and remove the nuts holding far left and far right to the car body without any problem.

Remember to grease/WD40 the elbows (on the mechanism, not yours)

Part number in 1st post is correct for Wiper motor only, that solved my problem (and the problem where the wipers would stop right where they were after turning them off, it had lost the ability to park which is controlled by the motor)

When you say mechanism, do you mean the wiper rod assemblies? If so they cost about £22.50 for the pair, one is 6K0955325 and the other is 6K0955326 and you can get them at Seat, VW or VW Van Center as the Polo and Caddy also use them! It was just the driver's side that went on my daughter's 2001 Chill - I'd reckon that that is due to rain water running down and through the wiper aperture grommet then down the arm to the pivot - they can be challenging to remove and fit though!!

YOU ARE KIDDING!!!!

Had to buy a whole mech from seat as they wouldn't just sell me a replacement balljoint!

Also, it is MUCH easier if you remove the plastic at the base of the windscreen.
