Hi,
I've got a project on the go putting a 20v in a mk1 clio on a GT28RS

I've commissioned some custom one piece driveshafts with a renault CV spline on one end and the VW one on the other
I've told the guy that they could see 350lbft. (it might )

He said that the VW spline will bring the minor shaft diameter down to 22mm which he says will struggle to take the power. I was hoping the renault CV would smash first, but he says they are really strong.

The engine is an AGU and the box is an 02J. Is there a bigger inboard CV available from the VAG parts bin? R32 or something? Something that will bolt onto the 02J.

Or am I worrying too much. I don't intend to run in about 300lbft most of the time, just for a bit of strip use 330-340 may be on the cards.

>400lbft torque
>500bhp

stock shafts (VR ones), same splines. CV's have expired on occasion on mine.
one snapped shaft only so far. long shaft sheared at end just inboard of the splines to outer CV

twist shafts are an option perhaps

Hopefully my shafts will be made out of similar stuff to the OEMs. The OEMs are really hard, ruinined a lathe tool!

The maths says that the outside of a 22mm shaft will see 113MPa at 350lbft, so I should be ok.
