moving battery to boot.

I done this yesterday and you can certinatly tell that bit of weight has been shifted to the back.

Just need to to tidy it up today and get the fuse box secure.

I'm confused by this, but then I dont like electronics.

From what i've read, I've come up with this, is it correct?

I think this is correct but what baffles me is why the fuse box has to be connected to the starter motor and not the battery. Won't the fuse box need a constant live and I didn't think the starter motor would have given this?

Ok so my battery finally gave up the ghost (at least I think it was the battery ) so used this as an excuse to ge a new racing battery and move it to the boot. Makes such a visual difference without the eye-sore of the battery. Havn;t taken it for a spin yet as the battery still not mounted properly, poping halfords tonight to get earthing terminal and nuts and bolts.

I am moving the air filter up into the newly created space later today hoping to see a peformance difference in shortening the intake pipe.

thinking of doin this at some point after the summer..... but don't want to use the wheel well. Maybe next to the CD player, or the opposite (drivers side of boot)....

Adn you buy a bracket to secure it? use existing brackets? get one made up? I want it to as secure as possible for MOT etc........

Also, I'm guessing the thicker the cable the better. so 0 gauge or 2 gauge?

You can mount it anywhere dude if you like, I was tempted to put mine down behind the passengers seat as its so small but then thought well really want to move the weight back so can be mounted on other side of the CD changer.

Im securing it with a bracket designed for the battery, got the battery from merlin motorsport and the bracket from demon tweeks. Also wire came from merlin aswell but the wire in the engine bay is some I had left over from past ICE installs.

I've got 2 gauge from starter to dizzy block and then 2 guage to fuse panel but only running 4 gauge to battery and 4 gauge for the ground.

Will upgrade in time as I got flexi wire and 4 gauge is alot cheaper than 2 gauge flexi.

I got 6 meters of positive cable to go from the dizzy block to the boot and I got way way to much about meter and ahal of slack so going to reduce that soon, and also a half a meter ground which I will make as short as possible when I mount the battery properly.

Cable costs depends on the quality, i go good stuff so like £4.something a meter.

I spent £150 all together but that was the bracket and battery, you cna always use ur standard battery and make up a bracket or buy one that would fit. I need a new battery anyway so went all out.

did mine yesterday, bought a battery holder and brackets for £4 at a local car shop, 4.5 meter's of power cable and a few big spade connectors, works a treat and looks so much better up front with that room, il get some pics up to show you, also put battery were i can still get to spare wheel without taking battery out of the boot, just thought it be easyer than having no spare wheel

cost was :

£32 for calbe
£4 for battery holder/brackets
£1 for few rubber gromets

so all in all £37

Battery now mounted in the boot

And for those who say they still want to keep the spare wheel...

So when I go on long journeys just whack it in
