L.E.D sidelights that work...?

Yeah, i will do. Hopefully i get them on Tuesday, and if i dont have the correct resistors at my house, i will need to go buy them. Off on holiday on Thursday.

Has it blow your bulbs? Or is the car just not accepting them?



I had to do a similar thing in my old Civic. I changed the front seats to ones without airbags, so i had to put in a resistor in place of the old airbag, fooling the airbag ecu as to think it is still there.

nah L.E.D's still workin 100% and will stay on for as long as you like if you dont turn the ignition on...

soon as the car is running they will stay on for roughly 1min then they go out and the bulb fail light on the dash comes on.

i have resistors here that are supposed to do the job, they are off carmodshop online. i tried one and the L.E.D isnt even interested when it is in place. must be the wrong resistence or something...

the resistors wont but the diodes do.

balls!! so i maybe should have turned the LED round before i threw the toys out of the pram...? thats with the resistor in place i mean...

LED's will only light up when the polarity is correct. If you have them the wrong way around, they will not light up, atall.

All i am going to do is cut the resistors into the wire before the bulb, then put heat shrink cable over the solder joins and resistor. Hopefully it will do the job.

Should receive the side lights tomorrow. They look great in your photo on the previous page!!

Currently i have them blue painted filament bulbs that quite a few people have, they are a good colour match for my HID's at night, but they are pathetic for brightness.


Do you have a multimeter?
If so, check the resistance going across, the standard side light bulb, check the resistance of the LED bulb.

yeah the sidelights im running are terrible for brightness and are a bit too blue for my liking...

don't have a multimeter, so im relying on you to be able to work out some sort of fix! keep me posted

power=amps x volts_______bulb is 5W=? x 12v_______so current draw is 2.4A.

resistance=volts/amps_____so, ?=12v/2.4A__________therefore resistance is 5ohms.



the resistor and LED (which should be negligable) should be 5ohms. if you cant get a reading through the LED turn the lamp or the leads around.

all this is in theory or course, in reality there may be slight differences.

what colour are the bands on the resistor?

they should be; brown-brown-red-gold (possibly silver or brown or red or missing altogether, its the first 3 that are most important)

power is measured in W so i dont know what you have your hands on.

I get a reading of 2.7 Ohms across the standard sidelight bulbs.

And for refference, the brown sidelight wire is the Earth/Negative, leaving the Purple (Yellow stripe) to be the Positive.

Had to find this out because i was getting two different readings across the LED, so i had to find out which way it connected up.

Having major difficulties with this! lol
I am not getting an easy figure from my Multi meter. As i am not very electrically minded, ive got my self in a puzzle.

Mainly due to the settings on my multimeter.
When readin Ohms it can either be at
200
2000
20k
200k
2000k

The results for the standard sidelights are:
200 - 02.7 Ohms
2000 - 002
20k - 000
200k - 0.00
2000k - 00.0

Now to me that makes sense. Now the results for the LED bulbs:
200 - Blank Screen
2000 - Blank Screen
20k - 7.94
200k - 29.2
2000k - 206

Now i cannot think how to interpret that :s!!

And for refference, the LEDs them self have a power consumption of 130ma

lads, someone has already done all the hard work in figuring out what l.e.d's and what size resistor is required. Search for h8t w8p's post (username spelling might be wrong)

You do need the type that disapate heat and mounted on metal body work{ally body resistors 2.2 ohm/25w ?}not the wire wound shown in the pictures so mounting them in line may cause a fire risk. I have used a very simple 501 bulb holder and bulb built inline which works fine over the last 18months. ..................
