Hi mate, mines looks exactly like yours, so don't worry!

Ok Is your car running fine then? Cause mine aint boosting properly above 4k rpm, also i thought there is supposed to be some kind of thin wire or resistor between the metal prongs on maf sensor. Hopefully there aint so i can rule the maf out then?

what size are the security torx?

Cleaned mine the other day. There are two types of secuitry Torx bits - sharper pointed ones (type that hold the headlight in) and the more rounded ones that hold the MAF in.

I tried three different ones before finding the right type. The are made by Laser and I picked them up from my local car parts place - think Halfords do Laser as well.

Pretty sure it was a T27 - can check tonight if you want?

...been out and checked and it was a TS25 bit.

Just make sure you don't buy blind and try the bit first, as I say I tried several bits before getting the right one. A Laser T-bar didn't fit but Laser 1/4 bits did.

Well I know on my last car (nissan) it did have a thin wire element, but my leon (tdi) doesn't have it and my car drives perfectly. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean your maf isn't duffed, but physically it appears normal. Best idea would be to get someone with vag-com to sit in the car and then pull up the vag-scope, and then compare the 'expected' Maf graph readings with the 'actual' graph while driving - if they're fairly similar you can rule the maf out.

I'd second what wisejason says. My T25 bit doesn't fit because the hole in it is too small. But I put some silicone grease on the contacts and that seemed to work well.

just cleaned my AIT sensor it was thifthy! oil all over it, so i looked at the TB also dirty, so i gave it a wipe clean. Not sure if its supposed to gather oil but i guess after 60k its inevitable. The only reason why im cleaning these things is because of poor mpg even when driving like a gran. Could anyone shed some light on my above post thanks

Did cleaning the AIT and Maf cure poor MPG?? im going through the same problems right now :(

Yeap there's two types of security torx, hexaganol, (6 sides) or pentagonal (5 sides), I think the MAF was 5 sided. Whilst using the correct bit, the bit broke and snapped off, so I just used mole grips to undo the screws, cleaned it, and revs settle down a bit better.

I took my MAF off and then put the sensor in a sarny bag, sparyed in loads of electrical contact cleaner, held the top of the bag and the sensor and gently shook it for 10 minues.

Cleaned the the MAF tube using spray, whipes.
