mate, removing the key barrel is a common mod - and a good one too! I'm sure you're aware of the vulnerabilities these mk4 golf platform door locks have. And a square numberplate will only cost a few quid to sort out...

I know what you mean about book value - there is a wide variety of prices out there, but Parkers are the most expensive.. and yet are still lower than the going rate!

Yeah the mods didn't put me off as such - it just didn't feel like 'my' car if you know what I mean (also had a couple of scuffs and the brake calipers needed a bit of work. I'd have probably spent a few hundred quid getting it up to scratch so having seen one in absolutely mint condition I'd rather spend the same money on that knowing it's been looked after and just spend more time and effort keeping it that way:))

Did come very close to buying it though - kept the poor guy waiting for about 20 minutes while I thought about it!!

a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it but at the end of the day if you dont want to sell it at that price dont sell it and keep it up for sale,

iv got a lcr 03plate and iv got it up for 5500 but iv seen them for way more than that.

I'm currently on the look out for a cupra r. i'm looking to spend 7K ish, possibly up to 8k on the right car. I'm after one with low miles in tip top condition.

It's proving to be quite difficult :banghead2

There are loads of over priced ones out there IMO, surprisingly a fair few with questionable history, (i.e. only dealer stamps) still asking top money.

Just going to have to keep looking. :headhurt:

I think we've all grasped that fact - but the point is, nobody on here (generally speaking) is willing to pay the inflated prices that are being charged, so you'd expect the prices to drop. The sellers obviously want to sell the car, but perhaps they aren't in a rush to do so?? Who knows.

Anyway, the hunt will continue!

That's not good then?

On a car which is only a few years old, i'd say it is. Doesn't instil much confidence, i want the receipts to confirm the history. Yeah sure i could check the history with the dealer but i'd expect the owner to sort this out, not me. This is just one example of the type of irregularitys i've encounted.

Maybe i just picky, but in my eyes its a fair wedge to spend and i want absolute reasurance that the cars been looked after to the highest standard.[B)]

Saying that i've found a 2004 in grey at a local garage for £8399, looks mint and only got 33k on the clock. So things are looking up. :)

EDIT: Just seen that i didnt explain my point very well in the previous post, in my defence it was pretty late

Inclined to agree, I can't understand why the original service book 'goes missing'. Then again the one I'm off to see this morning at a dealer only has a duplicate service book, but I've spoken to the previous owner and he's offered to send me all his receipts (he needed them for his accountant), plus I've checked the history with the dealers and it's all confirmed. So it shouldn't be an issue. If the car's in good nick with some form of proof of FSH I think that's the main thing. Potential haggling point on price though

Sounds promising, keep us posted. I've (quietly) got high hopes for the car i'm viewing tomorrow, looks spot on. Just need to have a haggle on the price to make it affordable [B)]

If that's the one that I've seen its looking pretty good except some of the stick on interior bits and the bonnet stripes - nothing that can't be sorted easily though!

That's the one mate, it's a small world. Yeah wasn't keen on the strips either, but as you said they're easily removed. I didn't notice any other mod, but then i'm new to the Seat's brand. Nice and local too. i'll keep you posted.

just my 2p worth... i sold my astra :cartman: a few years ago, book price was 3K - however after no interest i started to watch similar cars on autotrader and noticed that non of them shifted until they got down to 2100 quid. relisted mine at 2300 sold within the week - as someone has already stated its a buyers market.

when i got my lc last december it was from a dealer advertised for 7k, i got him down to 6 - all buyers want to haggle / get the best deal they can

personally i wont pay over 5k for ANY private sale, where is my warranty / come back etc... thats why i go to a dealer

may sound harsh but it takes a long time to have this amount of money spare in the bank

Bloody hell - an 04 for £5k, a 55 for £6.5k - I think I'd be worried why they were so cheap:confused:

Re: 55 for £6.5k

When I brought mine it was just before christmas and I suspect not many people were buying cars and the market was generally quite poor for used vehicles (I work in the trade).

As I was cash buyer there was no messing about. Also this was from a garage. I think they basically mis-priced the car at the time. I found out they even had traders trying to buy it off them for the money I paid. I was just lucky I guess. :D

7k miles on and its still going well, needs a service however.

Off subject: can anyone recommend an oil for the Leon Cupra R? I have Mobil One at work but think it maybe to thin, 0W40?

0w 30 fully synthetic oil is what you need to meet VAG 504.00 specification. Mobil 1, Comma, Castol etc :)

emailed them about that cheap plat.grey cupra on ebay about an hour after it was listed.... Got very strange replies, most definately a scam.

They wanted to know more about me than I wanted to know about the car - and avoided all my questions about it... very strange.
