Took my car today for a full service, and when they rang me saying its ready he also told me i have both springs on the back which are broken:cry:

Is this a commen problem or just have they just gave up??

Also i was thinking of lowering the car a touch now this is the perfect reason to, which is the best kit to buy, i was thinking bilstein/koni shocks and eibach springs, is this a good choice??

never heard of broken springs????????????/

heard of broken shocks.but not springs

if the springs are broken then your car has either done 250k miles or you been getting serious air..lol

who are the garage your using ???

and as for lowering springs i would get 35mm drop Pi lowering springs one of the best you can get around £85 full kit for car ie shocks around £320

cheers

Broken springs are very common on the front of Leons. Rears, much less so. Pleanty of people will have rear springs spare, having replaced them for coilovers. Put a request in the wanted section.

dpm does jom springs and shocks... decent budget set

id spend the cash on weitecs... 50mm lowering kit 35mm on the cupra. dubmeister sell them for around £280 which is a real bargain.

janspeed do some, decent setup for £180quid ish

or if you want to spend more, go for the kw shocks and springs.. £460 ish. unbeatable quality

i wouldnt put uprated springs on standard shocks, also best to stick to same manufacturer if you can, never heard of that combo tbh... eibach and koni fsds are popular but the fsds are pricey.

firstly i had one broken front and one broken rear when mine had to be replaced!
Also if you are changing the springs, do shocks at same time. Most of the labour is already being used when changing the springs so makes sense. Also the new springs will wear the shocks out in no time due to different 'travelling postion'. Lets face it after 50k most shocks are at best 50% worn out anyway, its just that you dont notice it as its slow to waer out.

Whatever you do dont go for standards from the dealer..... the amount of possible set ups is laughable....was told over 20 possible combinations for my car. ( look at the 4 coloured dots on each spring)........ and the price, well that just made me cry!

I'm on Eibach Pro-line springs and shocks. Just don't do what I did - I bought the springs and changed them, then the car handled like poo so had it 4-wheel aligned at which point it was pointed out to me that the rear shocks were shot and killing the tyres. So, off it all came again to have the Eibach shocks fitted which meant 2 lots of labour, 2 lots of 4-wheel alignments and me being about £300 down for not doing the whole lot at once in the first place!!

The 4-wheel alignment in my experience was crucial to getting the car set up properly and riding as it should. Really good kit, but doesn't lower the car a great deal - drops the front about 25mm and the rears about 35mm (which levels the car off as OEM has the back a little higher). Pics linked in my sig.

where did you buy your eibach pro-line springs and shocks from, and what sort of price were they? What does the kit feel like over the standard suspension set-up.

I looked at your pics and it does not seem that much lower, i want mine to go down a little but not to much, so would this kit be right for my cupra r?

Its settled a bit since then and is a bit lower now. Its not a massive drop - subtle though and you can tell next to another Leon that is been done.

The springs came from awesome-gti I think. I can't really remember to be honest. I think they were around £180 delivered. The shocks came from Elite in Rainham (Elitedirect.com) and fully fitted and 4-wheel aligned came to about £500. I think with the springs it would have been about £700-750 but best to phone them.

The ride is basically tightened up, sharper turn in and seems to grip better in the twisty stuff. It makes our VRS feel a bit floaty in comparison. Its not crashy or over firm as the Mrs uses the car with our 5 and 2 year old in it and she would not be happy if it was too firm!

You'd need to look em up for part numbers and drop for an LCR - I don't know if they are the same fitment or drop.
