Sounds familiar doesn't it? Haven't we been here before with others? :p It's not how it sounds, seriously. Bare with me a sec :).

I am not after increase in power, nore accelaration or anything of sorts... I have a 1.4, and I accept that a pleasent 60bhp is fair enough, it's not a lot, could be worse, it's a very fun car to drive I'll say that... but could be much better (as far as bhp is concerned)

I'm looking on improving the sound of the engine maybe, not in a chavy way, this situation needs to be tackled sensitively :p

I'm looking for a purring nice, decent sounding engine maybe? A chrome funnel or some sort of air filter obviously to replace the standard ring filter. Any help will be much appreciated. Not intending on spending loads, the main aim is to enjoy and learn any undertaken task with this current Ibiza. The plan is to enjoy the car for a period, and eventually sell on maybe in the near future...

Buying a GTi when I turn 20 as you may know. :)...

Soo... any help would be much appreciated. Remember - I'm not after some lame expensive mods which won't work - just something nice to make the engine sound decent and a bit deeper, without a ridiculous, dare I say - chavy "look at me", ahem - c*ck extenision 'roar'... :cartman: :)

Thanks!

P.S - Let's just say, between us lot on SCN, if I sell my car to some half-witt with a decent sounding engine and a shiney body with white alloys, he's / she's bound to be taken by it. Even though - I'll know for very well that it's only pumping out 60brake, if that ;)

What you need is some decent pipework leading to a cone filter in your front wing. Ive no idea on sizes but you should be able to measure all that. Most cones will cope with the raging 60 horses under your bonnet. But this will only give you a nice roar when accelerating and crusing at higher speeds. It will drone like a mofo at 80mph if you make anything to loud and if you tryed to drive 100 miles you would be mad at it. Have you already done your exhaust?

I was going to say, "I expected better from you"! I'd remove the existing panel filter and the pipe running down towards the front of the engine bay. Replace it with a cone filter positioned near the headlight. That should give you a better noise. To prevent heat soak, perhaps an aluminium heatshield between the filter and the engine.

any rough sketches / photoshops whatever would be much appreciated. Due to the actual value of the car, and let's face it - a pretty weak but OK engine - there's no point spending more than about £80 - £100 on it... so bare that in mind :)

I have not yet fitted a new exhaust or anything, not looking on spending THAT much, I mean - a sensible amount considering that I'm selling the car in about 7 - 8 months maybe? And unless I'm reaaally lucky - I won't get the money back in the long run (ish - couple of months). Unless of course I sell things off the car seperatley...

Rip all the black plastic off and put a tube to that drivers side wing and buy a max power or similar induction kit for your local motor world.

Instead of a little breather filter just direct the tube into a can of your choice be it Carslberg or special brew.

basically the oil and water from the breather will collect in it and you will need to empty it every couple of months. Or an aluminium drink bottle works well if you don't like the can look.

haha awesome!... my god that **** pipe one's hidious mind :p... but it's awesome ;).

Any links of decent filters? Realistically speaking - how much more power DO you get from these filters on a 1.4? What are the actual benefits too, not like all the bullsh*t on fleBay etc.

You get maybe 1hp. But vag engines are renowned for making more power than claimed to start with. As for filters just look for anything reasonably sized.
