Uprating Engine Mounts - Ibiza FR TDi

Hi All,

A noise has recently appeared on my car, as the turbo spins up and all the torque starts to be produced. I've had it in the garage and they have found out that the engine is moving about quite alot (more than normal). They have advised that the noise is because the engine is rubbing/knocking against other parts around it and the soluition is to replace the engine mounts. The garage advised that if I replaced the old ones with new standard Seat ones they probably wouldn't last very long due to my car having been remapped.

The garage also explained that uprating the engine mounts on a diesel can make the car have excessive viberation which some people can find they can't live with.

If anyone is able to offer any advice, especially if you've uprated yours, that would be great as I'm stuck on what to do next.

Seeing my engine on the rollers was a shock to say the least. Uprated dogbone mounts are part of the solution apparently and come in one or two stiffnesses.

The word on the street is that they do pass a lot of vibration into the cabin, but that would be down to what you're prepared to put up with, like the uprated clutches and suspension bushes.

ive also heard that it give a lot of vibration in the cabin, like tdi aint noisey enough extra noise in the cabin is not a help.... BUT i have heard that thete well worth it.... how much where from???????any help where we all can get them from please........

i had all my mounts and bushes replaced under warranty...do a search and you'll find my attached pic of the part numbers

plus, dog bone mounts make the ride quite a lot harsher, not so noticeable in the leons as they have a longer chassis

I know that www.vibra-technics.co.uk do a Torque Link but their website was quite a big warning that "PLEASE NOTE THAT CONSIDERABLE VIBRATION WILL BE FELT IF FITTED TO DIESEL CARS" which really put me off as you can imagine :-(

I did email www.thsperformance.co.uk to see if they do the "FR3 Engine Mounting System" for the Ibiza as they state that little of no vibration can be felt when fitted, unfortunetly they don't.

So once again stuck - doh!

Has anyone got any actual experience with the SuperFlex Sports Use dog bone bush on the TDI?? I'm sure they do create alot of excess vibration at first but what I/Martin want to know is does the bush soften up sufficiently to bring down the vibration to an acceptable level??



I can say that when I fitted an uprated dog bone bush to my mapped 1.8T MK4 Golf the vibration at first was such that I was considering refitting the standard bush but I persevered and over time (a few weeks/miles) the vibration died down to a more normal level and its still on to this day.

I've had the SuperPro "Lower Engine Steady, Rear Bush Kit (Fast Road Use)" (Part Number SPF2907-70K) fitted to my Ibiza FR TDi and I can confirm it is very suitable for a Diesel. Only a very small vibration can be felt at tick over (which isn't really notiable at all).

It's stopped the engine moving about excessively but the noise (which sounds like a vibration at 2k - 3k) is still happening. The garage have advised that they suspect the side amount on the drivers also need replacing. I don't think it is possible to source an uprated one of those so it will probably have to be replaced with a standard one.

Hopefully that will resolve the noise - fingers crossed

ah i see. Now i have a Ibiza TDI also remapped. (see sig) and ive recently developed a metal to metal knock when the car is started from cold. It also happens when i accelerate when cold too. but seems to go away when warmed up. I reckon this could well be the engine mount..

when fitting poly dog bone mounts. However, with the THS FR3 mounting system this
does'nt seem to be the case. Might be worth a try. (And he sells on eBay for a bit less !)

Cheers for the link, but we've already tried that route. see post #7. Hopefully they may decide to to the mount for the Ibiza Mk4 range. Think quite a few people are looking for uprate mounts.

If anyone is considering this, don't worry about the note on PRI Racing website stating "Petrol engine cars only", I think it is a mistake as SuperPro themselves state it is OK for DERV and as I've already said mine is fine
