When I had 100W bulbs the light was so much better than the standard 55W ones. Someone actualy asked if I had HID's.

fair enough. I tried them on my last car and couldnt see a difference TBH. They are also illegal if you are worried by that kind of thing... but I would doubt you would ever get stopped.

Thanks for the replys, true they are illegal but then so are HID kits i thought ? and its only really the main beam im after improving :)

On my mk3 i used 100w for the dipped beam and it melted the wire behind the bulb so was worried it might do the same on the mk4... the light was very good from them with someone asking if i had a hid kit lol

Yea, it does say that on the packaging but I never got stopped.

Infact the Mrs' father inlaw still has my old car with the same 100W bulbs in it and has had no problems with it.

Its not clear whether HIDs are legal or ilegal - no one has ever been taken to court over it so there is no case law. Just thought I would mention it as some people get funny about these things:blink:

ive been running hids for a good couple of years now had them in my old car aswell as this car never had any problems what so ever and i have 8000k bulbs which are a bit blue even for my liking really.
as you can imagine in that couple of years my old car mostly i have followed traffic police had mots been past vosa even got stopped for a side of the road drink drive check (x mas) still had no problems.
the best things about them is the bulbs last forever there really bright cheap for what they are easy to install and main beam isnt as useful although i do still use it.

The 100w bulbs are supposed to be "For off road use only" so if you do decide to use them I would only put them in the main beams. The legal alternative is of course is the high percentage bulbs, such as Osram Nightbreakers (90%) or Philips X-treams (80%) . The only problem that I have heard is they don't last very long.

I have Philips Vision Plus (50%) for dipped and Osram Nightbreakers (90%) for mains and you can definitely tell the difference compared to OEM.

Its true! Better to use Usual power lamps, Philips, Osram : X-tream, cooL blue, blue vision, GT-130, GT-150. night Breaker. I used they in 3 my older cars much better than stock. but not lamps with 100w consuption, if it will be a bad electrical contact in headlight plate your wire will be melt down. after 3 years or earlier, the headlight organic glass will be grow turbid!

Best lamps are XENON or HID !

I agree. I believe the OEM Xenons are one of the best lamps you can have. However I have heard there are legal issues with the retro-fit ones. They need auto levelling and some kind of washer. Also with cheap ones there is a lot of unwanted glare, I don't know about these so called "anti Glare" bulb kits.

what are they like on the plastic lenses ? spot any heat issues or yellowing ?

used to have em in all 4 of mine (glass) before hid (which are better tbh) and when i draped some gaffer tape over em for covers to line em up it would melt the tape even at 2" away from the lens itself

crazy heat
