Well I opted for the Halfords 10w40 for £21.99 which not too bad

Plus got a free 8 piece screw driver set

Lucky i didn't wander into to the car cleaning section

You just missed the Mobil 1 Super 5l bottle for £15. I would never put Halfords own into my car even though the sales person was like "it's basicly the same quality as Mobil" and that Mobil is owned by Comma!!!!!!! :wtf:

I always use the 10w40 stuff Unipart/Partco do for £11. Used to change mine every 5k on the Cupra so wasnt nessesary to pay stupid amounts for oil. I use the same stuff in the Skyline now aswel but thats changed every 3k insted and is the 5w40.

10w40 is the correct oil to use on a modded Cupra tho

You dont understand because you havent done that search i mentioned :ban:
I searched through 12 pages of results but I cannot find the answer to what you are claiming, no need for ban signs because I challanged your answer! There are no benifets of running a 10w-40 semi syth compared to 5 or 0w-40 fully syth. All the oils meationed will be the same thickness at operating temps just fully syths stay resistant to degrading over time better. Also I would want the thinest oil possable when the engine is cold so oil pressure is reached quickly. (sorry for the poor grammer and spelling on my iPhone lol)

Im with lemonslap on this one, he seems to be the only person putting any sort of rationnale / backup behind their claims, its all very well throwing figures at people and telling them its 'the right one' but some people like myself would prefer to be told WHY this is believed to be the best and then i will make up my mind from there. I too have searched endless threads on this with no-one able to justify why they use what they do.

then get 0w 30.

but i agree with myki that a modded cupra will use thicker oil as gets hotter (not read the first page)

Not reading the right pages then are you.

Want clarification then ask someone like Bill (badger5) or any of the other tuners on here an they will confirm that modded Cupra's should run 10w40. Or failing that ask Opie Oils

Ive not been on here this long without picking a **** load of info on the way. The answers to 99% of questions asked are already on this forum its just people are too damn lazy to find then for themselves which is why the famous search word pops up in pretty much every thread

I know mate, have read loads of oilmans posts (opie oils) but your not supporting as to why there is a need for all modded cupra's to run 10w-40 if they need thicker oil then 10w-50 would make sense?

I thought I would post this to help all of you in the future:

Oil viscosity is measured for motor vehicles in the following way
explaining a 10w-40 oil:

for example the first number 10w means the thinkness when cold, higher the number the more viscous the oil at 20C or the lower number the thinner it is (5w or 0w)

the second number 40 means the thinkness when hot, again the higher the number the more viscous the oil at 100C (50 or 60)

so to conclude if you need an oil that is thicker at normal running temps then you will need the second number to be higher example: 10w-50 and in the ideal world to get the oil circulating quickly on cold start up a thinner oil example: 5w-40

Hope this helps!
