Bonnet vent

I am trying to get a bonnet vent like the Supercopa Leon or similar, discreet and not over the top. The engine bay in our TFSI's hold alot of heat, if you drive your car hard most of the time (like me) and on track, It would be great to get rid of the heat especially as we've had really hot weather lately. All that heat harms our performance so we need it out.

How does a bonnet vent get rid of heat?

The cars with bonet vents normally have the engine air intake or an intercooler near said vent. the vents allow the engine access to cold air for the cumbustion process not to extract hot air. :shrug:

Heat rise's, so it will rise out of the bonnet. Why do you think Mitsu Evo's, race cars (Seat super copa) and other performance cars have bonnet vents. Obviously it has nothing to do with the induction process, but it does reduce under bonnet temperatures which is very beneficial if you use your car hard and it is highly tuned, to keep it as its best. I am not talking about snorkel vents like scoobies, starlets etc, that have vents to direct air to the intercooler etc. Just a vent to get rid of under bonnet heat.

I think you're at cross purposes guys.

I'm guessing Nath is assuming you mean a scoop like on a cooper 's' which is as you say to force air into the engine bay (to feed the supercharger that sits on top of the block).

Vent's don't really get rid of air efficiently at all. The best way to lower the temp is an intercooler or have a number of air feed pipes to force dense cold air from low down up into the engine bay. I've done this.

Or you could be like Hectre's civic in The Fast & Furious and go bonnetless?

Yes heat rises but this theroy sort of becomes useless when you are traveling along at 50 MPH and there is wind rushing in through the front grill and out through the wheel arches and under the bulk head. Most cars are designed with this in mind rather than a chimney in the bonnet.

I've already got uprated intercooler and whatever else, and just feeding air under the bonnet (i've also done this) just creates air pockets and slows your car down, the air needs somewhere to go. Thats why a vent is definetly a good idea if you have a tuned car like mine's and you drive it hard. Why do you think Seat race cars use them as i pointed out earlier.

As you feed the cold air through the engine bay with cold air feeds the vent takes the hot air and pressure out. Trust me it works.

I think its essential for what i want. You maybe a bit confused, A intercooler has nothing to do with under bonnet temps, just intake charge temps.

And this has nothing to do with gaining any power.

Yes I know what an intercooler does...:rolleyes:

I think you're confused...engine are not affected by external air temperatures whatsoever..unless you're in death valley and it melts a plastic cable...it's all about what's going into it. In the Paris Dakar you don't see them driving around with a string vest for a bonnet!!!!!????

They use techniques such as water injection or other methods to cool the combustion chambers.

...the engine bay is not a sealed unit there are plenty of places air can escape and flow. If you want to maybe borrow a escort cossie's or a 206 gti's bonnet for a week then let me know how much extra punch your car's packing.
Just don't expect to be pinned back in your seat after the modification.

Why are you telling me about being pinned back in my seat, as i've already said this mod has nothing to do with power.
