hi people having a custom steel exhaust fitted in a couple of weeks is it worth having a decat pipe aswell its a 2.08v the guy said he will make me to

Most people say not too on a 8v as it can loose some of its low down torque and not really gain anything.
I'm not sure so next to I go the the scrappy im going to try and get hold of a old cat then bang the crap outa it and see if its worth it.

yep he's right!
8v=low end torque (better everyday car)
16v=high end torque
so you lose what makes the 8v special!
on the 16v it just adds to the high end torque!

I have had 4 mark 3 golfs 2 x 8 valvers and 2 16 valves
bought 1 x 16v that had decat was loud as hell but no real benifit even though chipped
cammed and remapped ecu
I decatted 1 x 8v and it just added noise and definately lost its low rev torque
I would definately avoid decat unless you have seriously modded the engine as it does very little to power on 8 valve all it does is switch from low down torque to higher in rev range.
16v sounded nice but again no benefit bear in mind these cars run the same engines as mk2 ibiza
