one of the most annoying things ive found over the years is when people over value their cars, you really like it, fhas everything you want and cant make them an offer because they will tell you to pi$$ off.... It can be equally frustrating for the buyer as well as the seller sometimes ive found...

I've been told there are deals to be had at the moment due to the economic climate and all that. I bought my LCR for £6500, its an 03 plate with 44000 miles and well looked after by the looks of it, originally the owner had it on ebay for £7250 and the buy it now was £8000. Once I saw it it though I knew I wanted that one, so on the off chance i said to them if it doesn't sell I'll give you £6500. Anyway at the end of the auction it hadn't gained a lot of interest and they offered it to me at that price. So now seems like the right time to be buying

I'm looking at buying an LCR in the next few months, and to be honest - 8k is towards the top end of the prices for one. I've seen them from £4500-£9000 in all, so a wide range of prices. Of course, with this, comes a wide range of conditions/mileage etc, but I've actually seen some lovely LCRs for about 6.5k.
If you don't ask, you don't get. People are probably offering 6k etc because they have seen what they believe to be similar cars for that sort of money. Plus when you do any book-valuations on LCRs you'll more than likely find the figure is a lot lower than you're asking, so you'll have a hard job, more so in this climate, of convincing someone as to why that is the case.

Good luck though!

Bargain mate you have any pics of yours. And agree never go for the first one you fall in love with,,always more if your patient to wait and search for

Went to trade it in and was offerd £7500 laughed and walked out.
I wont be selling mine at all, i would rather keep it due to the amount of money i have spent on it ,plus it still turns heads and is fast as fook

Interesting thread from only a couple of months ago - most 54/05 plates seem to be up for around the £8k mark at the moment. I'm looking at one at the moment which is absolutely mint on 54k miles. Yet the cambelt needs doing and it needs tax but the dealer won't budge from £8k:shrug: But it is mint...:D

Figures of <£7k seem to be for 2003 210bhp or higher mileage (>80k) models

Oh, and I would definitely agree about not going for the first one you see (which I did with my LC :D)

If you've got under 50k on the clock then it seems you can still retain some of the value. I paid £9000 for my 03 210 2yrs ago with under 20k on it, i just touched 30k so it has under 1/2 average mileage for year. I took it to a dealer (Nissan) a month back who commented on how immaculate the paint was, how well it drove and how quick it was, yet offered me £5000. I said NO! I reckon privately I could scrape £7.5k looking at similar examples on sales websites.

well a book value on a 55plate LCR, private sale in good nick, is around £8.5k. When you see private sales of these cars at figures of around 10.5k, you can see that people are still demanding top £££ for their cars.

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=26135&plate=79

It seems to me that the recession hasn't hit car values as badly as people have suggested... especially when you consider running costs of these sorts of cars is still constantly increasing. (tax/petrol etc)

Just thought I'd throw this in - I brought my '55 plate Leon Cupra R in Dec 2008 for £6500 with 41k miles, FseatSH, 11 months MOT and 5 months tax on it!

So I got a bit lucky... :D

Bloody hell - an 04 for £5k, a 55 for £6.5k - I think I'd be worried why they were so cheap:confused:

I saw a nice 54 plate last night which I could have got for £7.5k but it just didn't feel like the right car (owner had made a few mods like removing the key barrel from the drivers door and a square number plate). So it looks like I'll pay a premium to get the car I want but I'd rather that than have one I'm not 100% happy with.

Alot of 04/05 cars are also due a cambelt change which effectively adds another £300 or so to the price.

The book price thing is interesting - Parkers values are much higher than everyone elses, including some dealers! I don't really get how What Car? etc can say an 05 plate from a dealer should be £7.2k when noone is offering them for that - who follows who? Should people look at the book price and value cars on that, or should Parkers etc look at what cars are actually selling for and base their figures on that?? Or should I stop thinking about it too much and do some work???:D
