Hi all,

Got to get an MOT done. However, will it fail if the ABS, Traction contol and Engine managment lights are on? Probably will and probably a stupid question, but you got to ask.

Cheers

ABS is a fail.
and if someone says take the light out or cover the ABS light then this should not work if the tester knows its got ABS. (and its not difficult to see if ABS is fitted).
This is becuase the test has to see the light come on, then off at the correct time.

The traction control light is not a fail. Although they may ask what it is!

But in short, your car should not pass the MOT with the lights on you have described.

abs light on wont fail m.o.t
yes it will.

the ABS light must illuminate when ignition is turned on, then the ABS light must turn off correctly as per the vehicles testing procedure.
If the ABS light remains on it IS an MOT fail.

If the tester knows the car has ABS, (its not difficult to know) then it will also fail if the ABS light never come on when ignition is turned on.

the text below can be found on the http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m3s03000401.htm

method of inspection:
1. If the vehicle is fitted with an anti-lock braking system, check that
a. a warning lamp is fitted
b. the lamp illuminates
c. the lamp follows the correct sequence of operation
d. does not indicate a fault. (ie stays illuminated after test procedure)

Reason for rejection / fail:
The warning lamp
a. is missing
b. does not illuminate
c. does not follow the correct sequence of operation
d. indicates an ABS fault. (ie stays illuminated after test procedure)

you need to get the codes for it , (if not been sorted yet )

mine was a faulty sensor which cost approx £20 for a replacement it would make a funny noise when stopping slowly as if traction tried to kick in but 1/2 a job so to speak
