I have an ALTEA 2.0 TDI SPORT (140bhp) DSG. (05)
It is due for two front tyres as the tracking is out and needs sorting as they have worn down on the inside edge, n/s more so than the o/s
Does anyone know the speed rating for this model the tyres currently fitted are kumho 225 45 17 these are a Y rating
I want to try a different brand to these. but i don't want to spend a fortune on something like michelin. Previous cars i have run Hankook and found this brand good value.
any advice welcome

tracking

Does anyone know of a reliable place to get the tracking done in North Yorkshire
I live in Thirsk.
I don't want to pay for 2 new tyres and find a month later they have worn down due to an incorrect setting

they also gave me a quote for a mid price tyre an AVON ZV5 x/load £107.90

I can usually get tyres at a good price through work as we have an account with a company at Northallerton and get through quite a few HGV trailer tyres

That sounds way cheap. Make sure they can do multilink suspension before letting them loose on it.

I don't know anywhere in Thirsk that does it, but there's a new depot of North Eastern Tyres and Exhausts open down at Knaresborough if you fancy a ride out. I would think they'll do it, as their other branches at Newcastle etc. do it.

Again, it's important that the place you go to has the correct equipment, and not just laser tracking. You need a full geometry check, not laser tracking.

Thanks for that info Viking
I might have a look down there at the weekend & have a quick chat with em, will only take about 15-20 mins to get there, looks like its just on the bypass
The tires are not down to the legal limit yet so i don't know weather to get it aligned now and wait till the tires have worn down before changing em or wait and get it all sorted in one go in a few weeks.

Yeah, NETE is right next door to VW Knaresborough where my Altea goes for a service. Although personally I get my tyres from Costco up in Gateshead. I've never had to have the tracking done on mine, or the 2 Boras I had before. The front tyres are notorious for inside edge wear, and when it happened to one of the Boras the tyre fitter said it was characteristic of certain tyre types and don't adjust the tracking. The next set wore down evenly over the whole tread.

hmmm
maybe mine might be ok if fitted with a better tyre instead of those Kumho's
The rear tyres seem to be fine no uneven ware
I might opt for W rated tyres instead of Y

I fit W rated to mine. Never had any problems on the Altea. I usually fit Michelins, but ;last time I went with Continentals and they've not lasted half the time that the Michelins did. I know where I'm going next.

I went to NETE at Knaresborough yesterday they did a FREE check on my alignment of all 4 wheels they all needed some minor adjustment.
You can view the computer reading in the reception area on a large lcd screen while the work is done, There is free coffee available. free internet use, a large lcd tv to keep you occupied
So i had that work done
One tyre was on the legal limit so i had it changed. I opted for a Maxxis MAZ1 RF 94W

the total for all work done, 4 wheel Alignment. the tyre with fitting. balance, new valve, ETC and of course Gordon Browns cut the total was £126.45

I have just been looking over the invoice and i see the tyre was inflated with nitrogen
hmm this one is new to me...Why?

Thanks VIKING for pointing me in their direction.
The local inde garage quoted me for the front tracking only.

£126 for 1 Maxxis? please tell me that was for 4 wheel alignment as well?

I paid £119 for 2 Maxxis MAV1's a few weeks back, inc fitting/VAT. 4 wheel alignment cost me an extra 40 quid.

Yes that was for everything
The tyre was £58.83
