my mate has a leon which is pretty much the same as the altea front monday she arrived home on a tow truck as whilst out and about a stone went through the grill and straight into the radiator, i took her to pick it up after repairs yesterday and the bill was nearly £350:cartman: whilst there the service guy told us that seat do a honeycomb grill insert that goes behind the grill which could avoid this happening and at the price of £20 i promptly otrdered on and had it fitted today, its a matter simple matter of economics £20 v £350 no contest!!! i think it makes the front end look better too :funk:

Had the same problem, although not busted the rad! It was the AC rad she killed then, it is the outer rad, then intercooler then coolant rad. I noticed a lot of stone pits on the AC rad, added my own mesh to the existing grille. works fine.

yes it could have been the ac radiator i just know that it wasnt cheap and the bumper had to come off etc etc, lets hope that the grill adaptor solves the problem:D

This sounds like £20 quid well spent, is there a part number for this honeycomb grill !?

Cheers
Mark.

No, i tried removing mine to get in behind it! Couldn't get it off, and wouldn't count myself as useless at practical things! There is apparently a technique to this which i dont seem to have....

I have a Honeycombe grill to fit to my Altea (£15+vat from Dealer, next day delivery)

I followed these directions last night. Good as they are, they seem to overlook a couple of hooks at the side of the grill. I could not get the damn thing off, and have marked the bumper a bit with the 'drivers to lift the catches. It seems catches need to be lifted, but hooks need to go down.
See the picture at bottom of this thread

Also shows clips on Grill going Under the bumper. Looks like a one time push on to fit it. And a real pain to remove.

Not sure how to proceed with out busting something, or chewing up the paint on the bumper :banghead2

The information that comes with the grille is "surprisingly" useless.

Using the details in the link for fitting the grill to a Leon it took me approx 15 minutes. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=165154

1. Remove both expanding plugs

2. Pull top of grille gently forward and insert small piece of wood as a wedge to allow room to access the two clips shown on the above link.

3. Using long screwdriver persuade clips on original grill out of holes in the front bumper. Not particularly difficult as the bumper plastic is relatively soft.

4. Remove grill forward from the top releasing the two hooks that go under the bumper at the bottom.

Refitting was the reverse of the above. Having relocated the two hooks ensure grille is correctly located at bottom. Line up clips at side with holes. A reasonable blow with the flat of the hand was then adequate to relocate the clips. Refit expanding plugs.

Job done without expletives and damage to hands. :D

Trust this helps.
