Willie is asking mate because most people assume that coilovers are the be all and end all when in fact you are likely to get a better ride and better handling from a decent set of springs and shocks than a cheapo coilover kit.
However, if you just want to be able to slam it and dont care about ride quality then coilovers are the only option.

weitec do a 50mm spring/damper kit but if you want coilovers Awesome GTi stock AP or the V-maxx ones as stated (DPM)

watch that sump in the derv mate, may be low, but if its got no oil in it...
anyway, too low and youll wreck the handling.
i thouht it was only people with £200 novas that did this
My thoughts on this is that if your going to totally wreck the handling of your car by lowering it to the weeds then you might as well do it as cheaply as possible.

Seriously though, if you want the car that low a set of coilies without any adjuster cups would put it on it's arse but as Willie said, your ride is shot, been there and done it. Like you say 40mm thinking about it may be the lowest spring setup you can get for a tdi unless some of the real real budget makes do more

There are 2 sides to every story mate. Willie's car will be one of the best handling Leons on this site, no doubt about it. However, saying that dropping a car to the weeds will automatically destroy the ride and handling is too much of a generalisation for my liking. We all know that Formula 1 cars handle like the proverbial No. 27 bus
although I will grant you that the suspension design is most likely slightly different from what KW or Weitech are producing.A good set of coilovers have yet to be bettered in the handling department by any spring and damper package without the assistance of uprated ARBs. Let me just add at this point that V-Maxx do not make good coilovers. If you have a properly set-up decent quality coilover suspension kit, laser aligned and correctly set geometry and a slightly wider rear track, no spring and damper equipped car will get anywhere near you in the twisties without uprated ARBs.

Ross you can't compare a Leon to an F1 car. What Willie is saying is correct, dropping a Leon on it's arse will ruin its handling because of the design of the chassis and the centre of gravity, he's not saying that any car low to the ground will handle badly. You are misinterpretting what he is saying.

However, in the spirit of a discussion forum, I am reserving my right to disagree completely. The difference in handling between my current "coilovered" Leon, my previous stock Leons and my FSD and Eibach equipped Leon, can be measured in orders of magnitude. There is no contest, my current car would leave them for dead in the handling stakes.
I've tried both approaches, coilovers have produced a far better handling car than my previous efforts with spring and damper packages. Throw uprated ARBs or different shocks into the mix and it might be a different story but I am going on my own experience and not what others tell me is the case, an approach that others may wish to consider the virtues of. Furthermore, uprated ARBs are not confined to cars without coilovers.
I'm not saying or thinking I have the ultimate Leon, its very far from being that. I'm just saying that this is the approach I prefer and that its an option worthy of consideration.
