Corsa and Astra VXR pops and bangs stock, I wouldnt mind the odd pop and bang here or there :)

popping and banging seems to be the new 2009 'scene' requirement, now that whooshy DV's are old hat.

I followed a Corsa VXR last night that was doing this and I have to say it wasn't really that impressive. Sounded like it was failing! I appreciate that the sound of a 4 pot is never going to set the world on fire, but why make it sound worse than it is?

Quite a few Corsa VXR engines have let go in the short time they have been on the go. There is a tuned one going about here that pops and bangs, but as you say, it doesnt sound good. The Astra does sound better than the Corsa.

To be honest though, a well sorted Cupra with a full Milltek sounds awesome on boost. There is no need for popping and banging.

The Corsa VX-R was pretty much a match for the S3 in the mid speeds. Amazingly quick little car, so it must be near its limits technically. With a remap and a pipe it must be fit to pop! Shame as in theory with its low kerb weight and high power it should be an amazing car to own. I had my window open slightly and at full load it was disturbingly loud. Was a Nurburgring Ed in white / black, but respect to it, it went like a train.

They are, but they both have an exhaust downpipe connected to the turbo and both use exactly the same cat in the milltek system.

So does a Subaru and an Evo, and they sound worlds apart. The engine is what makes the noise at the end of the day. The resonance in the exhaust only modifies this.

Thats the special edition Corsa Arctic VXR I think. If it was disturbingly loud, it has probably already been fettled with especially if it matched the S3 in the mid speeds.

 I get what you're saying mate but you could hardly have chosen a worse example. Scoobys are Boxer 4s, Evos are In-line 4s. Of course they're going to sound worlds apart.

From my own experience at the SCN rolling road day at Motoscope in Northallerton, 1.8Ts and 2.0Ts with the full Milltek system sound almost identical.

Hmmm thats weird. I have never heard a 1.8T sound anything like mine, and I know a few 1.8T lads that would verify it.

Just my own opinion mate. I must have heard at least 10 cars that afternoon and you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between them when both have a milltek turbo back system.

My Eurojet TBE pops on the over run, but its a very discreet pop and happens mainly before the car has warmed up.

I agree that pops are not good, but as said above on boost the noise is amazing and every bit as addictive as my old mk4 R32 with custom Bluflame was..... In a different sort of way, of course!
