Mine pops on the over-run, doesn't bang. Its a Mk1 but should be no different from a Mk2 system.
Corsa and Astra VXR pops and bangs stock
popping and banging seems to be the new 2009 'scene' requirement, now that whooshy DV's are old hat.
I followed a Corsa VXR last night that was doing this and I have to say it wasn't really that impressive. Sounded like it was failing! I appreciate that the sound of a 4 pot is never going to set the world on fire, but why make it sound worse than it is?
The 1.8T and 2.0T are worlds apart though.
They are, but they both have an exhaust downpipe connected to the turbo and both use exactly the same cat in the milltek system.
The Corsa VX-R was pretty much a match for the S3 in the mid speeds. Amazingly quick little car, so it must be near its limits technically. With a remap and a pipe it must be fit to pop! Shame as in theory with its low kerb weight and high power it should be an amazing car to own. I had my window open slightly and at full load it was disturbingly loud. Was a Nurburgring Ed in white / black, but respect to it, it went like a train.
So does a Subaru and an Evo, and they sound worlds apart. The engine is what makes the noise at the end of the day. The resonance in the exhaust only modifies this.
I get what you're saying mate but you could hardly have chosen a worse example. Scoobys are Boxer 4s, Evos are In-line 4s. Of course they're going to sound worlds apart.
From my own experience at the SCN rolling road day at Motoscope in Northallerton, 1.8Ts and 2.0Ts with the full Milltek system sound almost identical.
