my engine cover has messed up my car

tbh it seems to be running better now isnt it dave? I mean the engine cover breaking the fuel thingy is a common fault. Just get em to fix it and use it as an excuse to get and induction kit and leave the engine cover off?

just read the thread properly to see that it still misfires. Could you not find a cupra of similiar age and trades yours in and cut your loss of a grand or so for the privelige?

well you should see the state of my engine cover , the scratches on it and the auxilary hose has cuts in it but not so that it leaks.
no care or attention is given by the dealers oh and the AA guy pointed out there is a bolt missing from my dump valve :(

i have had 2 under bonett deadening sheets cause they keep going mouldy , this is my second engine cover , second cylinder head , second full exhaust , second injectors , second maf , will be second fuel pump valve , list goes on and on , i have done 11,000 miles of hell , and the car still missfires , vag com logged 38 on tickiver over 2 mins.

That's an unacceptable number of major faults for a car with less then 11,000 miles on it .... if it's this bad now it doesn't bode well for the future and certainly doesn't inspire confidence in the original build quality!

Either you've been utterly unlucky and bought a lemon or there are others with those issues who simply aren't on this forum.

I'd be inclined to read the other Mk5 Golf / Audi forums with the same engine and see if there are others and if so, reject the car based on their evidence and your own.

i would love to get it all sorted or even exchanged but when you speak to SEAT this is what happens:banghead:

been on loads of forums , seems some people have similar problems but just not quite the same as mine.

Have you tried speaking to Trading Standards or failing that ... Watchdog? I know it's a bit extreme or you could even give SEAT one last chance for a refund ( get a list of all your faults written down ... again) and basically say if they won't let you walk away then you'll have no choice to go public?

Interestingly RCS2k4 has problems with his and since he'd modified it they cancelled the finance - surely if SEAT can do that then you can do the same if they can't fix a standard car to agreed standards?

There are one or two other faults less commonly noted like CV joints and poor quality of OEM exhausts.

Every time I opened the bonnet the engine cover would be rattling around, dealer (allegedly) refitted it and a couple of days later I pulled up to the fuel pumps to fill up only to see smoke coming out from under the bonnet.

I didn't want to be on the news for blowing up the new petrol station (when it was new) at Wetherby Services so I quickly backed up to find the engine cover had again popped off and pushed the dip stick out, so at least it wasn't on fire but the engine cover now lives in the garage!

SEAT UK might even void his warranty all together if they decide the car has been driven enthusiastically a few too many times :rolleyes:

Doesn't exactly follow the spirit of the cars origins .....

thats what the lad who they did it to said.

He asked them, "so what does FR stand for then"?

Formula racing seat uk replied but still had no issues with voiding his warranty based on the fact he drives it too "hard".

Ive told him that he should just leave the engine cover off. 6 times its happened to him, I would have been well pissed.

how can you drive a car too enthusiastically ?
its a poor design which has caused the problems not the way its driven , perhaps thats why the SEAT touring cars drive with out an engine cover , mine is being binned once its fixed , i am not going to be driving down some country lane when it happens again.

this happened to h8t wp he done a post about it awith big write up.. see if you can find it, u cant get in touch cos hes stil banned for some reason

you guys do relise the engine cover houses the Air filter? , so you would need an induction kit...

Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but the same thing has happened to my Cupra yesterday, the RAC said it would be a DIY job, what do I actually need to replace? as its the fuel pressure regulator sensor which has snapped... but VW/Seat have said that i need to replace the whole fuel pump? is that right?

Its the little plastic bit on item on which has snapped...

The sensor is part of the fuel pump so you have to replace the whole pump , is your car under warranty ?
The procedure to fit one is very simple
