cruise control

I tried fitting cruise control today, and I thought everything was going well... Have just finished wiring and recoded the ECU. No fault codes were found when it was running, but when I turned the cruise on (engine idleing, not being driven) the engine cut out. Vag-com found a fault to say that there was an implausible signal. I restarted the engine and then pressed the resume button. The engine then cutout again. The set button does nothing.

So, questions are:

1) Are these problems being caused by it just idling and not moving

2) Are the wiring connections as follows;

brown connector xs3, stalk connector

5 to 31
6 to 30
2 to 27 ?
3 to 26 and 29 AND connects to white ecu wire (pin 14 T121 connector)

28 switched power

ANY help would be appreciated!!! PLEASE HELP:confused::(

Ok, after looking through my notes I think I might have found the problem! When I connected to the engine ECU, I connected to the top plug, not the bottom:ban: At least I now know the problem (I think).

Wish me luck for tomorow!!! (any moral support welcome:))

Fitted it to mine a couple of weeks ago and with the car stationary pressing the buttons has no effect as the cruise control only activates above a certain speed. You're wiring connections look correct, i'm guessing if you're connecting to the white ecu wire at pin 14 of the T121 connector you must have a tdi? If so i believe thats the correct one (I fitted mine on my 1.2 and its a different pin) Hopefully it is just that connection you need to re-do and it should all work for you. Good luck with it!

Im fitting it to a 130 TDI sport (52 plate). Im prety sure the problem is that ive connected it to the wrong plug, so should be able to sort it out tomorow, as long as I havent damaged any of the electronics in the ECU.

I thought they had cruise as standard? All the ones I looked at did, and mine does

Nope, not got it as standard. I didnt know that any of them came with cruise fitted, or even that you could get the correct parts from SEAT to fit it, which is why I went to VW. Certanly none of the ibizas ive seen has had it fitted. Learn somthing everyday!:)

Indicator stalk, two little nipples on the end and an on/off lever on top?

It doesn't come standard but as an option. Also part of the Conveniance pack on the FRs and Cupras.

Just been and changed the connection to the ECU bottom plug. It was a mission trying to get to the wire and splice/solder into it, but I managed in the end:D

I also checked the owners manual, and there is a section on cruise control, so it obviousley was a optional extra! SEAT dont even know their own cars it would seem!

Just off out to test it now, wish me luck:)

Hi how much did it cost you for all the parts to fit cruise control to your car? My 08 plate FR doesn't have it fitted and i'm interested in fitting it. I'm also interested in adding heated mirrors as i don't have them either.
How hard is it to fit?

Cost me £71 for all of the bits, plus a little for solder, cable ties and electrical tape - but I had all those bits already.

Took me about 5hrs in total to fit it, but I could probably do it a lot faster now that I know what Im doing. If your OK with soldering and are ok with taking bits of trim apart, its not too dificult. The actual wireing is simple, its just getting to it all thats the problem!

Im realy pleased with myself at the moment, and might treat myself to a run upto the brecon beacons next week to celebrate!

That's awesome, would love to fit it on mine. Job for the weekend some time. Would you be able to post the part numbers you need?

Part numbers I used were;

V6Q0 953 513 G9 B9 - new indicator stalks with the CC switches £59.88 + VAT

V6Q0 937 702 A - XS3 connector plug, for the central electrics ECU £0.46

V000 979 131 A x2 - wires with connectors for the XS3 plug. you need 4 connectors, but the wires come with one on each end, so I just cut mine in half so I only needed 2 £1.11 each

You also need some connectors for the new indicator stalks. VW didnt know which ones these were, so I went to a breakers yard and cut them out of a scrap ibiza. There is website which sells the connectors, I will have a look for you and see if I can find it if your interested.

Youll also need some wire, solder, cable ties and electrical tape.

The only tool I needed to get which I didnt have was a M12 spline to remove the steering wheel.
