Car won't start

:cry:ok guys got up early and bright this morning at 6am got ready for work, was due to start at 7am and as it only take me around 15mins to work i dont leave til around 6.15am anyway to the point. i went to start the car this morning and nothing completly dead alarm still works fine, but this happened to me couple of days ago had a jump start ran the car for around 40mins and fine then dead again this morning.

Know my guess would be get a new battery and see

other thing will it be the altenater.............

help please..............

If you have a volt meter or know someone who has.
Have you got VAGcom?
Checking for codes would be a good start
Have you had any CEL's (Check Engine Lights)

got a code reader will check in morning

no engine lights on either.........

That's what you get when the battery is low/dead.
I had the same when my alternator died, and the battery stopped getting a charge.

just bin to the car and put the code reader on the codes its reading is 17972 and 17989 any ideas

17972 is idle speed control. throttle pos, low voltage during adaption.

17989 is idle speed control, throttle pos. basic setting not carried out

would that be crank shaft/throttle position sensor?

so if that is the case will a new battery sort the prob out or is it a trip down to the garage....

Never had the battery light on before?
If not i'd say try and get it tested at kwik fit or the like if you can get it started some way.
But yes, looking towards the battery.

thanks guys looks like a trip to halfords or kwik fit for a new battery and that will do the trick.......
