Thats the nail hit on the head.
The word 'warranty' leads most people to believe that everything is covered, mainly because it is a word associated most with new cars where most things ARE actually covered.
Think of it more as an insurance policy on the major parts of your used car - it will probably cover a lot less than you expect it to but its a safeguard against big stuff going bang.
You take out house insurance knowing only certain things are covered, you probably pay out mobile phone insurance, boiler cover etc etc
Against the cost of your car, the warranty is a small percentage and its classic 'buyer beware'. Make as sure as you can that the car is actually a good 'un before you buy it, then have the warranty in place as a safeguard. You may have claims turned down, but even one approved will probably repay you your premium in a bill saved.
Even on new cars, warranty isnt as comprehensive as you would like. Its European law that every new car must have a 2 year factory warranty, its the UK importer who pays for our 3rd 'bonus' year which is why the cover reduces in year 3. Even in years 1 and 2 some things stop being covered after certain mileages and time limits - they become adjustments and wear & tear therefore chargeable. My Leon has 12k done in a year but I know my noisy brakes wont be covered, nor will my wiper blades and washer jets.

exactly mate i aint expecting e.g. my tyres to be covered but i just want the main bits covered the "expensive" parts

im about 90% going to get one now:rolleyes:

Just a word of caution on small print. A lot of policies stipulate that the car must be serviced under certain conditions eg VAT registered garage, to manufacturers schedule, after a certain time irrespective of mileage etc etc
We had a VW TDI which blew up in a big way. It needed a turbo, cat and full exhaust due to the amount of oil. Warranty would only cover the turbo although we did source a non-VW cat and exhaust which the customer was reasonably happy with as a turbo job is £700-£800.
THEN - AA warranty asked for proof of service and it all went a bit pear shaped. Hand scribbled dockets with no reg or mileage wasnt enough and the claim was turned down.

yeah ive heard about the bit but i do my oil changes at 6k :confused:

Its all down to proof. Thats why the proper garage receipt is required.
It hits the genuine guys who really look after their cars and work at them themselves, however if you saw some of the moves people have tried to pull . . . . . [:@]

You mean interval? 10k across the range but Im like you - did mine at 5k and 10k with proper longlife PD.
Warranty servicing requirement gets a bit grey when we prep a car for sale and do a routine service outside the set intervals - messes up the schedule a bit lol

:lol: if i just get it done at 10k then i spose it would save me a job, do you need a dealers stamp to proove it
