Air flow sensor

I think my Toledo is asking for a new MAF sensor, but I'm not sure what to go for. There is the Seat dealer version that isn't exactly cheap. Or there is the GSFCarparts one for £52.50 +VAT.

Or there is this one;

The question is, am I just stirring up trouble by saving money? Is the GSF one a nice compromise between 'cheap and nasty' and 'dealer rip-off'? Or should the sensor be OEM only just because of its effect on the engine running?

My MAF went after 150k miles. I replaced with genuine part. I thought about saving a few quid by putting in a cheap sensor from ebay.....but I was advised against it.

You can choose which one you have from GSF, they do carry the Bosch one though.

DPJ - As you seem to have gone through more MAF's than anyone else. Did you ever have a problem with the wiring itself? I seem to have a reoccuring problem with an open circuit. it can't be the MAF after a month surely!?!?

Hi Stu.

No, mine were all the result of comprehensively ****ing the MAF with excess airflow and vibration. Probs gone since I went Big turbo and dispensed with the RamAir CAI.

Open circuit will be a wiring problem. :(

I think you should check first if the MAF sensor realy is faulty, try checking it with VAG-com

There's no fault codes registering on VAG-COM, but I was having trouble with starting which seems to be an early symptom of a failing MAF sensor.

Fortunately, me switching back to super unleaded seems to have sorted the starting issue, so I'll wait a bit longer before replacing the sensor!

Im not quite sure if your MAF sensor realy is the issue, maybe your turbo is meanwhile dirty and needs to be cleaned. That was the case on my toledo.
Is the safe mod kicking in at high speeds?
