throttlebody cleaning

yep either running or not, i used a toothbrush aswell to clean the bits, i want to take it off and clean it one day, but this was just a quick clean!
how does the cable come off the TB? i didn't want to gash at something then realise i'd broken it!

and i kind of understand why you sanded it down, there is a lip on it, but i think it wouldn't make much difference, but it might at the same time lol

but since i cleaned the TB its so much smoother!

The acclereator cable unclips/hooks from the tb. Just turn the black circle thing (thats the official name haha) and unhook the end of the cable.
Word of advise though, if you do take the tb off (easy enough, just 4 bolts) make sure you have a spare gasket or some sort of gasket seal for when you put the tb back on.

Hey guys, I inherited a Mk2 Ibiza cupra off my dad recently and as soon as I got it, it was having trouble starting (lol typical!) and also when I did get it started I seemed to be experiencing some kind of acceleration lag ( the car seemed to get a sudden surge of speed rather than smooth acc). Anyways took it to a garage who cleaned the throttle body, now it starts every time (but a bit grumpy, as in sometimes sounds like it might stall) and im still getting the acc lag.

My dad recons I need a new throttle body. I'd like to know everyone's opinion? is a new TB in order?

I dun think its only when its cold, for example if I drive home from uni (bout 18 miles) pull up outside my house, for two mins and then start the engine again, its still a grumpy start. And the lag will still happen when the temp needle is in the centre.

so when you say lag what do you mean? is it all through the revs or does it pick up better when you get higher in the revs?

say im overtaking a car, ill put my foot down it'll accelerate a little and then all of a sudden just surge with loads. so i suppose it is when the revs are higher. tbh this might be normal for this car, I got nothing to compare it to?

is it a 8v or 16v? if its a 16v then thats probally right they have no power till about 4k, otherwise it might be a slight missfire, when were the plugs and leads last changed?

might be worth getting some new ht leads then, when i brought my car it had a misfire so i changed the plugs and it would judder till about 4.5k then all of a sudden pull really hard til the redline so i changed the leads and now i get that all through the rev range,

but no its not normal for a 8v there known for there low down torque so it should pull hard straght away.

thanks krishen! haha that is it's official name mate :cartman: lol
i got a bloody strut brace and it was a pisstake trying to push down the "black circle thing" and clean the TB lol as it kept coming in the way
so i will try and take it off, and get a new TB gasket
thanks mate, where in brum you from? will keep an eye out for you!

and gti_jonathan it sounds air/electrical related, when my coil pack was on its last legs it sounded like what your car is going through
if it is an air sensor, take it out and try revving, see if it dies!

I had the same symptoms as you. Took the tb off gave it a good clean but still didn't fix it. So i bought a tb from the scrappies and presto car is running perfect. Fixed the starting issues (would start but revs would drop when cold) and the lag, like you when trying to overtake someone it would feel like its holding back and then all of a sudden there would be power.

oh really? i'll keep an eye out, i used to live in sparkbrook (opposite farm park if you know it?) and most my family live by the mandir on warwick road, it's rare to see a mk2 ibiza round there, they all got honda civics lol (or another indian driving a mk2 lol)

all the tb's are different for different engines right?
