Anyone had any experience with the vvtli celica . I'm thinking of ditching the lc in favor of the celica . Just wondering how it performs compared to the lc ?

Probably scrapyard bound....

However, I've got the cupra and my mum has the vvti, if you like revving the car off its head to get it up to speed consider the toyota.

The Cupra is better, my mum thinks so too

i havent even driven a leon yet but i know the answer to your question, the leon looks miles better too

as above the handling can be sorted, i'd imagine some collies, wide wheels and some strut braces will put a smile on your face

Have driven the Celica 190 version and it is very nice driving position. It's a completely different driving style from a turbo though. As has been said it need to be revved to get it going, but boy does it go! I'd suggest test driving one at least.

Gotta say i do prefer the look of the cupra but there is something drawing me to the celica . I know the handling can be fixed but its a lot of hassle and a lot of cash !

Before I got my cupra I tested a Corolla T Sport (same engine) and you had to wring its neck to get anyware in it. Very little torque and all the power is at the top end.

Cupra wins hands down for a everry day car IMO.

rear arb and decent tyres would transform the car. no hassel or megga bucks.. youll have to find another reason to get the celica:lol:;)

are the celicas good at handling particuarly?

test drives the only way to be sure but it sounds like youve made your mind up?

A £350 set of coilovers will transform your handling and leave the Celica for dead, a fair amount of cash but not exactly megabucks.

I looked at a celica when i brought my leon n imo i didnt like it inside at all and the way you sat in it more than anything else as for exterior they do look nice from the front but dont really like the side or rear view and the novelty fades really quick.

But at the end of the day that my personal opinion and everyones opinions are different.

when the celica came out it was marked as one of the best FWD car for handling ever made.

I had the same question a couple of years ago. Test drove a couple of Celicas and came very close to buying one, very quick and great fun.

Downside for me was the cost for a good one at the time, the finish didn't seem quite as good as the Leon; I saw a lot of 3 year old models with flaking / bubbled paint on the alloys - oh and the lack of turbo :)

Worst thing about the Celica is the total lack of space! Anyone taller than ~ 5'10" is cramped in any of the seats.

Plus they suffer from annoying belt puller bearings, which makes the car sound like a bag o' nails!

I've owned both,
I had a 190tsport as my last car, i love the looks of it and the handling was spot on but and its a bid but in my book, it just doesn't feel that fast. No torque until 6500rpm and then it all goes crazy and you have to do it all over again in the next gear and unless your seriously moving and fucused on your gear changes its hard to keep it in the torque curve. No space in the back and the boot looks big but its shallow because its a coupe. Relaiability is very good as you'd expect and you do get more admiring looks from people in the celica.

In my Opinion for everyday driving low down torque is much easier to live with and more fun.

The choice is yours at the end of the day, good luck with whatever you chose.
