Never realised that indicating was such a chore and a hardship. These indicators are hopeless as they only flash 3 times. At least the Vauxhall ones flash 7 times when you go above 60 mph.
3 flashes isn't enough to change lanes on the motorway, and if you indicate the correct distance before the junction on 30/40 roads, the indicators will have stopped prior to you making the turn. THere are plenty of insurance claims being faught because of these "i did indicate" / "he did indicate then stopped" argument will go on an on at the scene of accidents.
Don't do it.

So you signal, mirror, manouvre? Personally I have been monitoring my mirror ready, I then recheck the mirrors, signal and manouvre into the next lane where I know there is a clear gap, 3 clicks is plenty for that and is perfectly safe
I too have been checking mirror but have a good final check before moving out. I am always looking in my mirrors. IAM driver you know
3 clicks is not enough for this especially in busy traffic.
got them fitted after! i used the wiring digram for the passat that is in the instructions aswell. one wire was a different colour but was the same number pin!!
i used a small jewlers screwdriver. something like you would use to tighten screws on a pair of glasses. id say you would get them in halfords. cant remember where i got mine! just forced it in at the front of the switch not where the wire goes in. used it on the top and bottom and then pulled the wire out. they are fairly tight but dont be afraid to use a bit of force! How did you get the pins out...!? I tried for ages and failed to budge one - even with a removal tool...
Nobody mentioned traffic conditions, if your squeezing into a gap that somebody needs to create to let you in then you obviously need to click the indicator on fully and wait til they move. All i'm saying is that for general motorway driving 3 clicks is very often quite useful, whenever ive used it on a flowing motorway start of the 3 clicks im in one lane and im safely in the other lane by the end.
I wouldnt pay much to have it fitted as an extra, but when i drive cars with it on motorways I do use it a lot. that is also incidentally on BMW's and Mini's which the indicator stalk always returns to central position even when putting the full indicators on, its not really that hard to get used to unlike what Mr Clarkson would have you believe lol, then again he does intentionally complicate things for dramatic effect.
The whole point of indicators is to let other people know you are going to move lane. How can you expect someone to react in that time with out panicking. just cus you do it doesn't make it right or acceptable. IAM manual of guidance recommends at least three flashes of the indicators prior to moving out of lane at motorway speeds.
