Looks good Rob. I couldn't quite understand what you were doing with the mirrors, but they look good in that pic.

Hello Rob, let me first congratulate you for your awesome Leon.
I've read all the 21 pages over the last couple of days and it's just amazing. It's the best Leon that I've seen and you just keep getting it better and better
Sorry for the off-topic but as I'm about to install a GT2X kit to my Bora MK4 1.8T I would like to ask you a couple of question: first what do you think about this kit, are you happy with its performance? Any troubles so far?
Another issue is the oil restrictor, I've talked to the guys al ATP and they've told me that this turbo doesn't use one. Even more they told me that if I use one I'll have oil starvation problems which will lead to turbo destruction.
I think that I've read somewhere in your post that you have or are going to install an oil restrictor, am I right? What can you tell me about this?
Thanks in advance for all your help

I've been running an oil restrictor ever since the turbo was rebuilt, and it's fine. I discussed this with CR Turbos and they made one for me. I am convinced that excess oil pressure blew the seals on the turbo because of running with no restrictor. The restrictor CR Turbos made me is 1.5mm, normal ball-bearing turbo restrictors are 0.5mm, so it's larger than normal.

Thanks for your reply Rob. It seems that you're using the same restrictor that ATP offers for the T series and larger GT turbos, the journal bearing turbos.
Let me ask you this: how long did your turbo lasted without the restrictor and how long have you been using it with the restrictor installed?
Thanks again for all your help :worship:

Oh men, that really sucks :thumbd:
What manifold were you using and which one are you using now?
Thanks again for all your help, it's really appreciated

ATP manifold, now using Tigart tubular manifold, so far so good. At some point I'll be having the Backdraft GT28RS kit, as soon as funds allow.

I'd heard that the first manifolds that ATP sold were having that problem and that's why I've chosen a 034 Motorsport unit and so far so good :)
The GT28RS is a great turbo, quick spoolup and lots of power :p
We've have just installed an Eliminator 2 GTRS kit in the MK4 Bora of a friend and it just runs great.
So far it dynoed 352 HP spiking 23 psi and then droping to 19 psi.
Your proyect is by far better than my friend's Bora

The Eliminator 2 kit seems alot better than the first, something I am considering, although the Backdraft kit is first on my list but alot more expensive than the Elim 2. Elim 2 is only £1400 for a GT28RS kit and the Backdraft kit is £2500.

Re-starting a website is something I may consider. ;)

Rob have you seen the backdraft kit as ive heard the quality isnt that great? Not seen one so cant say 100% but maybe worth looking at before you go for it? It was a tuner that told me so could have been just regarding fitting etc.

Elim 2 Vs Elim 1, not seen this, what are the differences?

JBS per chance?

Not seen one up close no, never heard anything bad about them yet? Tons of bad press for ATP though, although I heard the Elim 2 kit is much improved.

how is it improved Rob?

The Eliminator kits were a really cool idea: a Garrett GT series turbo fitted in a K04 exhaust housing. In this way you can retain a near stock "stealth" appearence and keep the stock manifold and downpipe. In theory it was great but in reality not quite so and this was because the K04 housings were too restrinctives for the GT28RS and the GT2871 units.
So the full size turbos were developing a lot more power than this "Hybrids".
Another great issue was space, in the position were the compressors were located there was simple not enough room to install a proper sized inlet so the turbo can breathe correctly. The 3" inlet option that was offered by ATP was plain and simple a pain in the ass to install because they require a lot of modifications to be fitted.
So now they have replaced these kits with a second version in which they use an up-pipe to move the turbo above the stock manifold. Doing so they have space to mount a short near stright 3" aluminum inlet from the MAF to the turbo. They also use the full size Garrett GT BB units and a stainless steel adaptor which connects the Garrett exhaust flange to the stock downpipe, and its a very nice piece of piping.
It can be used with the stock manifold or with a high flow unit, in our case we used a 034 Motorsport unit.
It also comes with all the gaskets, bolts & nuts, hoses & fittings, aluminum charge pipes and everything needed to install it properly.
So far we have seen very good results with this kit and the fitment went very smoothly.
I'm not allowed to post links or photos yet but you can see them at ATP's site if you're interested
