Hello, i'm new to the thread as i'd like to buy a Diesel Cupra, or possible the FR if i cant get a cupra.

I was wandering if anybody knows the accelleration times for these models and how they compare to possibly some others eg. the 180bhp petrol cupra? possibly in-gear times? .... and also would you recommend the diesel over the petrol. Cheers :)

Which do you prefer?

its hard to decide.
they are both quick cars.
the 180BHP has and APR map to 212 BHP.
the TDI 150 is standard but has more torque than my remapped petrol 1.8T.
when i remap the TDI 150 i know it will have more torque than the petrol 1.8T.
top end revs and top speed is where the 180bhp 1.8T prevails over the diesel.
final verdict i dont know what to say other than better fuel economy in the TDI 150.

Get the FR TDI, then remap it - you will then have lots of torque & power still with the fuel economy :D

how much would it cost to remap it? is it expensive? and would this effect the reliability? i've read that amount of power can damage the clutch

£250 for a remap from, ecotech performance co uk, they did mine and now 190 bhp and just under 300 lb/ft torque. Any more and the clutch will start to slip....

give him a ring....

Last post deleted when i was explaing my situation and not trying to sell my car???????????????

remap wise id say around 300-400 notes for a custom map, dont know about the clutch but wouldn't recommend driving hard on a standard clutch with a remapped car

Sounds like a fair price that, if i keep mine could be worth a ring, where is he based and whats the map like mate?

My clutch is holding so far, all i've done is an AMD custom remap at £399 its been well worth it, no change in economy but least its not gone down.

I've got acceleration times for 180 20vt and for golf GT TDI 150 which is more or less identical to the leon both from whatcar. The ingear times are 30-50 in each gear and then 50-70 after that (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th)

20vt

0-60 7.4
30-70 thru gears 7.5
3.8 4.9 7.1 10.1
3.9 5.2 6.8 9.1

TDI (golf)

0-60 8.5
30-70 7.8
3.6 6.3 8.7 18.5
4.2 5.2 6.5 8.7

Obviously the ingear times favour a diesel as they are a very short burst of acceleration at relatively low revs.(which is more often the situation you are in on most roads) The main advantage of the petrol is a redline of 6500 rpm, and once you get above the legal limit the diesel's long gearing will hamper it (which you can see in its 30-50 times in 4th 5th and 6th compared to the petrol). Ultimatley flat out in a straight line the petrol will always be faster, on the road there isn't much difference.

Dont forget that the diesel engine is heavier than the petrol, and does effect handling.
